WASHINGTON - The Obama administration is moving to rescind a federal rule that reinforced protections for medical providers who refuse to perform abortions and other procedures on moral grounds.

A Health and Human Services official said Friday the administration will publish an official notice of its intentions early next week, and open a 30-day comment period for advocates, medical groups, and the public. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the notice has not been finalized.

The Bush administration instituted the rule in its last days. It has already been challenged in court. Pro-lifers hailed the Bush regulation, but abortion rights advocates say it could reduce access to other services, such as birth control.

I agree that Obama should not revoke this federal rule.

However, the rule does not really "protect" medical providers. What this particular rule is all about is funding. Basically the rule withholds funding from institutions that don't follow the existing laws which do protect the medical providers. So, basically it was a rule that instutited a penalty for not following the law. So, yes, in a round about way it protects the medical provider, but the protection is really there with or without this rule.

There are other (long standing) federal laws that already state that an institution can't discriminate against a medical provider if the provider his moral or "conscience rights". Those federal laws are not the subject of this. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't come under attack in the future.

Further evidence that O'bama is a rabid abortionist.

    what it says

When someone like BHO gets that much of the vote what does that say about our country? I got flack for being an issue voter. Well if I'ld rather vote against a baby killer, and a homosexual agenda than for what some politician will put in my back pocket then that's my right!!! I don't think our country learned much from the Clinton era!!! Morality matters in public service!!! :godisgood:

Wasn't Clinton the one who balanced the budget? Brought us a period of wealth and prosperity even if the dot.com bubble later burst?

    An article on the topic:

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=90240

Like I said, I can see where this is going....OB/GYN doctors you must perform abortions or you won't get paid for your other services by Medicare, Medicaid, etc. Then the insurance companies will follow suit. It has always been that way - what the Feds do trickles down to private insurance and they duplicate the federal policy.

"Terror" implies sentience. How many chickens did Co. Sanders terrorize?

But we learned a great deal during the Bush era. Don't elect a president who neither has the intelligence or the leadership capabilities to head the leader of the free world.

He's saying that the unborn are no different than chickens. (Sentience=awareness.) Disgusting. And it's a clear violation of the Board policy of life beginning at conception. Reported.

Your name is appropriate for one who states that concerns raised by Christians over abortion is much ado about nothing.

Its not that Christians have a concern, it's that that seemingly is the ONLY thing that matters to some.

50,000,000 babies slaughtered in the womb is a lot of "things" to be concerned about.

It is only "seemingly" to those who want to ignore their politician who works to see that these children die every day.
