This is both a heads up/warning and a question or three.

Questions. If you have Office 2007 do you have trouble with it configuring every time you open one of the programs?

Have you found a way to contact Microsoft?

Have they or anyone else helped you fix it?

Heads up: I have troubles on two of the three computers I've installed it on and not going to mess up a third till I have a fix. I've spend several days googling etc. for a fix and have found dozens of forums full of others having the same problem. Some date back to 2007 and no fix from Microsoft.

It occurs on xp, vista and 7 from all indications and on student/home and professional versions of office.

You might want to keep what you have.

I've tried every way I can think of to contact them and all I get is the page where they discuss the pricing options for help.

I've used it ('07 professional) on xp and vista and now on 7 with no problems.

Just an idea, but you might want to do an uninstall and then reinstall.

I've got Office 07 in multiple Vista and XP environments, with no problems. My office also has one Win7 beta machine with Office 07, with no problems.

Just for kicks and giggles, make sure all of your Windows updates have been run, including updates to Office 07.

This problem seems to be cross os and versions from what I've read. I've tried almost every fix I've come across. There are a couple of Registry fixes that may work, just haven't ventured there yet.

It seems to be on puters that have had a previous version of office on them, especially a demo version of 2007 which my machine qualifies under both.

I downloaded a demo of Word Perfect also and it installs but presentations will not work - again a ton of people fighting the same problem.

Tech support is not even reading my posts. This mornings "fix" was identical to the last one he sent - you have to wait three days between answers. The trial period is about over

Love these Tech Supporters, no offence to any that might curl up here on the board from time to time :tongue3:

That would be me among them (although I'm a tech analyst, not a support person per se), and no offense taken. I've had to deal with the same frustrations when calling some organizations who will be nameless, but whose initials are HP. :wavey:

I recently just bought Office 2007 for a computer that had a trial version. It instructed me to just punch in the authorization code, but to not actual install the software (since it was already installed), I have had no problems. You might want to reformat you computer back to the factory original, and then just enter in your authorization into the trial edition rather than install.
    Hope this helps, good luck.

I was kind of wondering if that would work, thanks for the comment. I think I have the demo .exe file in the garage. I removed it a month or so ago as an install (probably the problem).

Will give a try with reinstalling it and see what happens.

John and HP, my wife would say the same with ACER. She spent two days with them and Microsoft over outlook 2002 and that Vista problem :tonofbricks:

Don't know if anyone is interested but thought I would update my problem.

I have been fighting both MS Office 2007 and the new Word Perfect. Tonight I stuck a new drive in and installed win 7 and both programs went on without a problem. Both function perfectly.

From all of my reading on google/microrsoft and corel there is a registry problem.

On Office I can clean all older office directories off the drive but when I open one of the programs and it goes through its configuration bit the office11 directory is recreated.

Something buried somewhate is trying to reinstall the old version of office, then when the new version thinks the old one is there it registers itself and finally opens.

I've emailed MS and the guys on the other end seem to be stalling. They have asked me where I live twice, told me to go to the UK site since I am in the UK -not, I'm in Salem, OR. I snail mailed MS and no reply. I've filled out forms for help on their site with only this one Indian type office responding with nothing but dead links that they suggest for me to find help at.

Corel isn't much better, their tech sends me FAQ questions and answers after I told him I had read and tried all of them.

Service is non-existent from the two companies as far as I can see.

I installed demos of both programs and they do not work. Corel has been stalling to the point that I think the demo period is up next week

I've found hundreds of people having the same or varying problems with MS office and it is not only 2007 but office xp and 2003. It comes from uninstalling one and installing another or trying to run both on the same machine. It is on windows xp, vista and 7.

I found two posts of people that had been told after hours on the phone that they do not have a fix for this and reinstalling the OS is the only thing they (microsoft techs) can suggest. This has been going on since 2007 on office 2007 and much longer on the older versions and they have not fixed it.

One might say they are inept but of course I would not say that  -- just type it

I'm vaguely remembering that I did have some problem installing mine to begin with. Then I uninstalled it and used the authorization code like Steven said and it's worked like a charm ever since.

I would recommend using Revo Uninstaller to clean out all the traces of Office and then reinstall... but the sheer volume of registry changes you have to check and approve boggles the mind. I'm glad to hear you got it to work properly.

 got a phone number from MS this morning, called at 730 and at 1100 I was told that he could do no more for me that someone else would call next week

Most of that time was deleting office junk from the registry line by line. He couldn't get remoting to work so ...... As it stands I can't uninstall from control panel as the install is corrupted

I'd rather get it running on the old drive as I have huge data files to copy if I start over with the new drive. Will give them one more shot. At least this kid gave it the old college try this morning, between my weak hearing, inability to understand thick dialects and his quiet voice I'm amazed we did as well as we did.

If you have the patience to use it, giver Revo a spin, but it may not pick it up since the install was corrputed. It runs the uninstaller, and then scans the registry and folders. for the registry, it pulls up all the entries but you have to check them. Only check the bolded ones... if it has an entry that can be expanded and it is not bold, drill down to the bold and only check that. Office has a LOT of registry entries. With the folders you can just click "Select All" and then "Delete".

I downloaded it, will let MS finish their mess, if they don't get it will give revo a spin.

    Thanks for the suggest.

No problem. Revo is one handy little application to have around. I use it extensively when working on/cleaning up a computer.

    Update:

MS finally got it fixed. 3+ hours on the phone Sat. then at the computer all day today talking on the phone off and on with the masters.

They gave up on fixing office and reinstalled Windows (did an upgrade so didn't loose anything but some settings and printer drivers.

I had been trying to get Word Perfect running as well and the reinstall of windows cured that boo boo also.

All is working so off to bed and hope it lasts over night.
