Old Newspaper In Attic Sheds Light On 1st Amendment Debate

Congress Violates Own Law
Our Inside Reporter Gives Us The Dirt

New York City----In a stunning development today, our first United States Congress violated their own law by asking the President to declare a day of thanksgiving and prayer!

The controversial subject was introduced by Mr. Boudinot, who said that he couldn't think of letting the day's session pass over without offering the opportunity to all the citizens of the United States of joining, with one voice, in returning to Almighty God their sincere thanks for the many blessings He had poured down upon them.

The subsequent discussion was lively and eye-opening, to say the least.

Mr. Burke said that he thought this was totally against the First Amendment, which they had recently debated and agreed upon.

Mr. Tucker attacked Burke, saying, "Hey, it's cool! Nobody's ever gonna know that we've violated our own law. They're never gonna figure it out. And if they do, it won't be for at least another 150 years or so. We'll be dead and gone before (that) hits the fan!

James Madison concurred, telling the group assembled it would be a real hoot to pull one over on the unsuspecting public.

Mr. Sherman was in agreement with Madison, saying, "Yo, Jimmy! I agree. Everyone thinks we're good, noble men. Nobody's ever gonna believe we would violate a law we just made."

Jimmy agreed, "Yeah, (forget about) 'em! Let's do it!"

With that, the motion passed.

It's this reporter's opinion that this new country is going to hell in a hand basket. One can only hope that sometime in the future, a group called the ACLU will come forward and thwart this insidious practice of acknowledging God in the public discourse.
