    Emily:
The Lord Jesus refers to those that are His as being a certain type of animal. The wise old owl? No. The soaring eagle?. No. The powerful bear? No.
He refers to them that are His as sheep. Dumb ole' sheep. Sheep are TOTALLY dependant upon their Shepherd. Sheep have a way of wandering off, and they do so at great peril to themselves. What is the solution? The solution is to stay close to the Shepherd! You can get too far from the Shepherd, but never too close! That rod that is in His hand is not to shew you away when you get too close, but to guide you back when you get too far away. I have heard that when (a real-life shepherd) has a sheep that has a way of always wandering off that he will use that rod to actually break a leg of that sheep. He will then carry that sheep on his back until the leg mends. Sounds cruel, but guess what? A sheep so, "discipined", if you will, never goes astray again! Also, it is better to have a broken leg than to be devoured by wolves!
So, as to OSAS-who does the keeping, the Shepherd, or the sheep? If you have everlastng (Eternal) life and, let's say, ten years down the road, you do not have it; Whatever you had was not eternal life (that Jesus gives), but something else.
As to those that have never heard: the last verse of John chapter 3 is very clear as to who is saved and who is not. If you have the Son, you have life, if you have not the Son, you have not the life. Excuses? Not found here, or anyplace else in scripture, for that matter. Man is without excuse. Romans 1:20.

    Ian, and Trotter,

There is a great chasm between Calvinism and Arminian-type thought on this matter. I guess it's a fruitless discussion.

    Michael,

Please clarify your statement, because, frankly, I do not understand.

I make no claims of either camp. I hold to what I have read and understand about salvation in the Bible. I do not use titles or names for this belief, it is just the way that the Lord has shown me. If what I believe the Bible says lines up with one of the two, fine and dandy. But, please, don't try to pidgeonhole me, because I have found that I seldom fit into any mold :D !

I am a Southern Baptist, yes. And my beliefs line up pretty much with those held by the denomination. I belong to a SBC church for this reason. But I am a SBC because their beliefs are similar to mine, not because they taught me my beliefs.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

    Trotter,

You said, "But, please, don't try to pidgeonhole me, because I have found that I seldom fit into any mold!"

Okay; I didn't mean to do that. I don't like to be pidgeonholed either, for the same reason.

Let's just say, then, that we interpret the scriptures differently. [IMG]

    Michael,

Done! Hey, we can agree to disagree, but I don't really think that is what we are doing. I think that I have taken what you said pretty wrong. Please forgive me (I tend to be pretty hardnosed about doctrine). Really, I'm not as bad as I appear...just ask my friends...um, they were just here a minute ago......guys?

    In Christ,

    How about Matt. 25:26-30?

I would like to hear your comment on this.

Who is the 'wicked and slothful servant'?

Nearly all baptists believe in security salvation, so far I know.

I am baptist. I used to believe in osas before. Now, no longer believe in osas doctrine. I rather follow the Bible than men's teaching.

Later, I will put many verses, why these are not support osas.

    In Christ
    Rev. 22:20 - Amen!
