I am not questioning anyone's salvation here, but for the life of me, I cannot understand how a Christian can support abortion when God's Word is so plainly against it!

I don't care how good the candidate is, if he is for murdering babies, I will not (and cannot as a Christian) justify voting for him/her.

Those who vote for abortion...watch out for the millstone...

Unforgiveable, no, but I don't see anyone here repenting of supporting of and approving of abortion.

The world will never be sin free, we will never stop things like abortion from happening. The issuse for the beleiver is, will I support and approve of abortion or take a stand against it, no matter the cost to me personally.

So, you are saying that being pro-abortion is sin.

I was asking Carpo as he says a person cannot be a Christian and be pro-abortion. Of course I do not expect Carpo to answer.

Have I ever said that abortion is not a sin?

The topic of abortion covers a lot of territory. I am glad that I am not God and have to make such decisions in all situations. I am not up to that job. Are you?

I really posted that to be funny (sort-of).

But this does raise an interesting question. I believe that most of us (but, sadly, not all of us) would agree that having an abortion is committing sin. But, is being pro-abortion, supporting those who support abortion, especially in the political arena, is that sin? If the action (abortion) is sin, isn't supporting, promoting and agreeing with those who commit this action equally sinful?

The problem faced by the Christian voter is this:

    1. Barack Obama holds positions that an obedient Christian would deem sinful (e.g. abortion).

    2. John McCain has positions that an obedient Christain would deem sinful (e.g. "America First").

So one simply does not have a candidate that is not promoting some sin. Should the Christian then not vote? Or vote for another candidate that has no chance of winning? If I were an American, I would probably do the latter.

McCain was not sinning. He was stating that America should come first before other countries as far as taking care of its people. He is not talking about the priorities in his life...

Obama is clearly violating God's Word.

What is that verse, I couldn't find it. The one that speaks about those who approve the evil deeds of others. Not the exact words, thats why i couldn't find it.

This is sin. It is not the position of an obedient Christian. The Christian who takes the gospel seriously will say something like "Humanity First". The appropriate position is to say "the needy first", or "the weak and the fatherless first", without reference to nation.

Now if by this expression, he means something like "I promise to take care of the American people", I am more than happy with that.

But as worded, the phrase really does suggest that he will place the interests of America (a rich powerful nation) ahead of those who are weaker and less powerful. And that would certainly not be the position of an obedient Christian.

But there are other certainly other positions that McCain stands for that should be seen as sinful. This is not so much a criticism of him by me as a statement of the demands of the way of the gospel.

What! This is wrong and I completely disagree!

McCain and most every other American that says something like this means they want to be sure that our interests are protected, preserved, and that we continue to prosper in peace. He would be looking out for America which is exactly what we'd want a President to do. We would certainly not be looking for him to protect the interests of other nations because many nations have interests very contrary to our own. This in no way implies that America has not, does not, nor would not provide help to other nations and peoples around the world. I can't think of a nation in all history that has a better record of doing this! This is really no different than a father or mother looking out for the interests of their own family. It's their duty to do so. It does not mean they can't or shouldn't help others but they'd better not be helping others in ways that would be detrimental to those entrusted to their own care.

Let's get real with this kind of stuff and drop all this silly liberalized thinking that the whole world is some kind of big happy family that just wants to get along and play nice. I'd have to lay down Poncho's globalism card here! It's this way between nations just like it is from neighborhood to neighborhood and family to family. We need to be careful with whom we hook up. We need to pay attention to America, to our State, to our City, and to our families in order to protect, preserve, to continue to prosper, and continue to be a shinning example and hope among nations. We can also be compassionate, helpful, and encouraging to others to the extent our abilities and resources permit and where it does not bring harm to ourselves.

I have no complaint with this in principle. However, it is clear that there are ways that prosperity is achieved either at the cost of people elsewhere in the world (e.g. environmental damage, economic exploitation, etc) or if the government does not advocate for generous giving and debt forgiveness.

The gospel call is a very demanding call. And if there is a nation saturated in material wealth, such as the US is, and if people in other nations are lacking for food and basic medical care, then the American people are not living the gospel way.

And this is equally true for Canadians and any other wealthy country. We are our brother's (read "the rest of the world") keeper.

I think I will go with what the Bible teaches. And the Bible teaches that the poor and the weak come first, not the Americans, or the Canadians, or the Swazilanders.

Generosity with bullion, bullets, and blood has been a long standing attribute of America even to former and recent enemies. Go sing the song to the tight wads in other corners of the world. They're a better audience but won't listen.

My Brother, America has many of it's own starving to death and without medical help. We seem to have a propensity to send much of our wealth elsewhere instead of helping people in need here first. I'll be the first to agree that Christianity demands we give all we can to help the needy and nationality should not be a barrier but as a nation we also need to look inward for a change.

What kind of country would we be if all we did was hlep others in other countries and not help peoples here. How in the world can feeding the hungry in our own country be sin. If so Jesus sinned by feeding the multitude.
The attitude we've seen of not helping those in need in our country is not a christian attitude.
