Nip/Tuck made its 90-minute, July 22 debut on FX with a splash. The show delivered what its publicity campaign had been promising -- graphic illicit sex scenes, profanity, blood and gore.

Orkin Pest Control was a sponsor of this offensive show.

Never even heard of this show. I'd prefer to check it out for myself rather than assuming what's claimed, & encourage everyone else to do the same, before sending a letter.

    Orkin sponsors vile 'Nip/Tuck'
WARNING: This description of the Nip/Tuck program contains offensive content

Nip/Tuck made its 90-minute, July 22 debut on FX with a splash. The show delivered what its publicity campaign had been promising -- graphic illicit sex scenes, profanity, blood and gore.

The opening scene focuses on a patient's exposed buttocks as Drs. Christian Troy and Sean McNamara insert and remove an "a-- implant" a couple of times. Troy and McNamara are Miami plastic surgeons who cater to those who have extreme whims and "needs" for altered bodies.

The main case in this debut episode had the surgeons change the appearance of Silvio, a mobster, who explained that he had "been with the boss' girl." The "girl" turned out to be the boss' six-year-old daughter. Silvio's brother killed him during surgery; apparently Silvio had also molested his young niece. Left with the body to dispose of, the doctors tie 12 hams to it and feed it to alligators.

Dr. Troy, unmarried, is featured in a lengthy, loud bed/skin scene with a model he picked up at a bar. Dr. McNamara is shown having sex with his wife, their bodies covered by sheets.

McNamara's teenage son is demanding a circumcision, so there's a lot of dialogue talking about the boy's penis. McNamara's wife wants breast augmentation. Dialogue included 10 uses of God or Jesus as profanity, including four GDs.

No offense or disrespect towards any of the posters here, but I prefer to check the show out for myself prior to making a determination.

I don't want to be guilty of heresay. I decided to do that after the "Bruce Almighty" threads. Aftert watching the movie for myself, I discovered that all the "anti-" arguements were completely without merit, and 100% unfounded. I'm not saying that's the case with this program, but I simply prefer to see for myself first.

I posted the link instead of the description because I felt it was too graphic for some of the younger readers.

That's simply Wildmon's description of the program.

When I was pastoring a number of years ago in Central Texas, I could only receive one television station without ordering cable. Since the congregation barely paid me enough to buy beans and bread, I had little desire to waste money on luxuries like cable television.

I received Wildmon's AFA report on a regular basis that described many television shows I could not receive. From the descriptions, they sounded terrible and I was very concerned. A couple of years later I saw some of the shows that Wildmon had described and I was surprised at how skilled Wildmon was at villifying shows that dealt with content he did not approve of.

I checked his site today and noticed a tirade about the movie, "Saving Private Ryan" being shown on television uncensored. He made it sound like the network did not warn anyone about the content of the movie before it was shown and that parents and children naively turned on the television to see some sort of Fred McMurrey Disney-type movie and were suddenly confronted with the carnage of the D-Day landing.

Check things out for yourself instead of simply taking the word of a muck-raker.

I don't have to watch the show...the commercials for it make me nauseous.

Sponsors have been pulling out of shows a lot lately because once they watch these shows, they want no part of them.

I applaud Don Wildmon for spear-heading this grass roots effort to get smut off the air.

    PETITIONS WORK!

Tell ya what. I will send the "e-petition" to Bowflex on ONE CONDITION. Here it is.

All of you who are up in arms about this show and its sponsors have to sign a petition I will start to rid the airwaves of Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. I am serious. If I can get 50 people to promise they will sign it, then I will start it. After you have signed mine, I will sign yours. Then we can get twice as much smut off the air.

Okay, y'all. I finally caught an episode of Nip/Tuck. Here's my layperson's review.

The show centers mostly around the exploits of two doctors (who are brothers) in the cosmetic surgery field. The show definitely contains many adult themes (not all sexual in nature). Its adult content is comparable to that of shows like "NYPD Blue" or "The Practice". The style rivals that of HBO's "The Sopranos", sans graphic violence and language.

In comparison to the sexual content daytime soap operas, the show is mild. The program is geared toward an adult audience, and is in a time slot appropriate for that audience (10pm).

The complaint is that the program containt "graphic illicit sex scenes, profanity, blood and gore". The sex scenes are by implication only, and not graphic in nature. The only profanity I ran across were mild expletives. There was no blood or gore in the episode I saw, but, since the program involves medical industry, I'd imagine that any scenes would be comparable to the show "ER".

I find it incredibly hypocritical that this show is being rallied against, since any daytime soap opera contains more sex, violence, and profanity than I saw on this program.

I would not give my 15yo permission to watch the show, but if I had found out she had seen an episode, I would not be overly concerned.

While I was not offended by the show, it's not the type of programming that suits me, and as such will not be watching it. Additionally, I will not be joining any effort to prevent the show from airing. I leave it up to others to make their own determinations.

Johnv, you might be careful about posting obscene words here. I got caught for that once.

Terry: Thank you very much! As a Christian, who is concerned about an over abundance of smut on the tube, I will take that as a compliment! :D

FYI...Orkin has stopped sponsoring this show, as well as Bowflex and two other sponsors. They must not think it's the kind of programming they want to promote. Hmmmmmm

Actually those words all appear in scripture, but the context is different.
I'll edit those words only since nothing was wrong with the rest of the post, and it goes without saying that everyone should be cautious in the wording when posting things like this.

As one of Sue's Deputies... I thank you too!

So should a Christian watch soap operas? I have no idea about them because we don't allow regular t.v. during the day. Only kid programs and Cooking, Crafts, decorating, etc. are allowed.

Gosh, I wonder if it's different parts of the U.S. are more or less shocked by stuff like this? I've heard about those California people! (JUST KIDDING HERE. Please feel free to comeback with a redneck, cracker joke! LOL)

Well, I would have never watched an episode if it hadn't been for the disucssion here. I watched most of one last night. Wont be watching another one.

If it ain't porn, its pretty close. I never considered myself a prude before, guess I'll have to change that notion. At any rate, I could find no redeeming social value in it, where as in Saving Private Ryan, there was some, IMO. Maybe others have a different notion of redeeming social value. ??

Curious though that FOX News is the darling of conservative/right wingers, but their "entertainment" section is pretty generally horrid. Wonder how many conservatives will send a message by refusing to watch FOX period? I find the whole catalogue of their programming not to my taste.

Well, I don't usually voice an opinion on T.V. shows that I haven't watched. But I've seen the promo for the show, and it made me wince.

Ever see a commercial for something that is hard to watch? This is one of those.

If the show is half as graphic as the promo for it, it would still be something that I couldn't watch. I'm very squeemish. Don't laugh. ;)
