To assure salvation you need to go forward one time in your
life and shake the preacher's hand and you are saved.

    Romans 10:9-10 (KJV1611 Edition):

That if thou shalt confesse with thy mouth the Lord Iesus, and shalt beleeue in thine heart, that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saued.
10 For with the heart man beleeueth vnto righteousnesse, and with the mouth confession is made vnto saluation.

I would have said yes, but you said that a person must "go forward" and "shake the preacher's hand." There are other forums and manners through which a person may "confess with their mouth."

I would have said yes also. I voted other because the Bible teaches that it is as simple belief in Christ and profession of faith. There is no mention of shaking anybody's hand.

I'm surprised the vote is so close.
The statement people are 'yes'ing is false

    The statement:

//To assure salvation you need to go forward
one time in your life and shake the preacher's hand
    and you are saved.//

says little about salvation. This isn't salvation,
    this is easy believeism.

This says nothing about the author of salvation: God Almighty.

This statement says nothing about the OWNER of my salvation
which is NOT me but is God.

    Rev 7:10 (KJV1611 Edition):
And cryed with a loude voice, saying,
Saluation to our God, which sitteth
vpon the Throne, and vnto the Lambe.

Here, a modern version is easier to understand:

Revelation 7:10 (HCSB = The Holman Christian Standard Bible):
And they cried out in a loud voice:
    Salvation belongs to our God,
who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!

NO! I didn't shake anyone's hand, (neither did the thief on the cross) but we're both saved... [IMG]

Merely shaking someone's hand doesn't save anyone anymore than getting baptized saves them.

I got saved at home and didn't shake the preacher's hand until I went forward for baptism - but I was saved BEFORE either of those events happened.

§ue (went in the water saved and came up saved)

    Hi Ed,

I think the poll was a bit confusing because you had a false statement followed by a true statement in Romans. I pray that no Christian would bear false witness and vote yes just to make you look bad. But when I first read it I knew the first part was false but the second part was true so I did pause before voting no until I assumed that you was seeking an answer to the first part. Not sure why you added Romans 10 in there.

    God Bless!

The untruth in the statement is an error
filled misunderstanding of what Romans 10:9
says. Of course, the scripture is correct,
but some misunderstand it. I am exposing
    that misunderstanding.

OSAS is the most dangerous belief there can be. Most people in churches today believe that all they need to to do to assure salvation is to go forward one time in their lives and shake the preacher's hand and they are saved. Nothing could be further from the truth. Given, salvation is by grace freely given but we are told that we "must be born again." That means changed completely. The Bible also says that we must "work out our salvation with fear and trembling" and that we must "take up our cross" and follow Him. None of this is compatible with the "cheap grace" being peddled today in most churches.

    StraightAndNarrow,

    That's true.
    ----------------------------------------------

This poll was made to convince others that "most people in churches
today" do NOT believe in 'cheap grace'.

As far as i am concerned OSAS = once saved, always saved is God's truth
and is not 'cheap grace'. OSAS cost the life of God's only begotten
Son, Messiah Jesus. How could it have cost more?

On another board, they used to have a poll like "Please vote yes".
Usually 6 to 8% of the votes would be 'no'. So that may be the factor
working here. Plus, there are folks about who actually believe the
majority of people believe this foolish notion.

Confess with your mouth has nothing to do with proclaiming Chris in the church. It means to agree with God.Confess to God that Jesus is the Christ and the only way to salvation.

    Eddy Edwards---buddy, ole pal!!!

Your statement is about as false---but Romans 10:9-10 is true!! "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD Jesus Christ and believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead thou shalt be saved."

If that verse is not true then God is a liar----but here's the hang-----

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the

LORD Jesus ------ meaning---- from here on out---it isn't me, Jesus! Its YOU!! My faith has found a resting place/not in devise nor creed/I trust the ever living one/in Him alone I plead

Blackbird: "Your statement is about as false---but Romans 10:9-10 is true!!"

Rat poison is made of like 1.5% poison
and 98.5% real neat food for rats.
A bad apple ruins the whole barrel.

The correct answer is "No, the Bible specifies more to Salvation"

That is a trick question. I answered yes. Provided the gospel is given the sentance could be true.

Well, you got me - I thought you were being cynical and sarcastic with the first statement, then getting into truth with Romans 10:9&10. I voted yes, thinking I was voting the truth as revealed in scripture. I won't get fooled again! Bruce
