I'm trying very hard to be open minded and extra hard to see the good in it. But... uh... ummmmm... eh.... hmmm... oh boy.

I just found a plan of salvation that comes with the dolls.
    http://tinytim.wordpress.com/2006/12/15/jesus-dolls-take-3/
If just one child come to Christ through this, it will be worth it.

I knew it would be controversial here on BB, but I have yet to hear anyone around here (where I live) complain about it. Our whole church is behind the idea ... and the other churches in the association that knows about it are supporting us.

I am just trying to do everything I can to win souls. It may not be your cup of tea, and that's OK, but for us, we think it is great.

Hey, we're Baptists.. and are not supposed to agree with everything anyway.... lol.

Yes, you can do whatever you wish. Sounds like you truly want to use this as a witnessing tool.

I don't think I would use this approach, though. Even though I don't really have a problem with statues in a Nativity scene.
It is because of what someone else said in this thread: giving this doll to little kids means that they could be playing with it in a way that is not wrong to play with other dolls or toys, but could easily be irreverent when it is a doll meant to represent the Lord.

And that's an awfully slippery slope right there. Just because one child comes to Christ through this doesn't mean it has God's blessings. God often works despite us.

But since you feel that God has led you down this road then you are obligated to follow the road.

One would not be for my home, nor would I give one to an unsuspecting innocent child to set before it, or to play with. The Catholic's may have a better idea of the Mother and the Child as we can get a "two for one special" to worship.
N O = NO; and we don't have a picture or replica of the "Lord's Supper" either.
We don't have one. We have plenty of these out in world to "Ooh and Ahh" over. The world doesn't know they are not to make a likeness of what is in heaven. They don't know to walk by faith, and not sight.
You know us well. I hope you respect us, as we respect you. I don't understand you, and you don't understand me. We both only know what He tells us.
    Amen!

I think I disagree. It comes partly down to what is done with that doll. Are you expecting that kids will just put it on the shelf and look at it once in a while with a good feeling?
Are you expecting that they will play with it?

I expect them to play with them.. they need to know that Jesus can be involved in every aspect of their lives... Even when they are playing.

They need to know that Jesus is a close personal friend, someone who they can have a real relationship with, not someone that that they should be afraid of, or that sits way up high in Heaven, ready for them to mess up..

No, by allowing them to play with the doll, they may begin to understand that Jesus is with us, and cares for even the mundane things in life that are important to us... like when Barbies arms fall off!! lol

But rest assured, I do understand your concerns.. it is a fine line.

Making a toy Jesus just doesn't have the same ring as Do homage to the Son, lest he become angry, and you perish in the way..

Or this, Our God is a consuming fire.

Toy Jesuses (or is it Jesi?) just doesn't sound like yer teachin' right to begin with.

Our responsive reading this morning contained Philippians 2:9-11, and I chuckled thinking of the Jesus toys.

There's some incongruity here, don't you think?

Highly exalted, name above all names, every knee bowing, every tongue confessing and child's plaything?

It is wrong to suggest that those opposed to dolls supposedly representing Jesus Christ would necessarily also advocate distributing the 1611 AV (KJV) and Spurgeon's sermon notes to reach children. Indeed, Spurgeon himself would not have advocated using the 1611 in that way, if he advocated using it at all. (The version in use at his time would have been that of 1769) I would not use the dolls, but I use the New King James Version, and much as I love the works of Spurgeon, I would not hand them out as part of outreach.

Being in the UK, I am not really sure of the definition (modern or otherwise) of a "fundy", unless it is someeone who stands for the fundamentals of the faith.

    Every blessing,

    Jesus Dolls

If you can condone the use of these dolls you have no argument against Santa Claus. Both teach a lie. These dolls no more look like Jesus than you or I do. They violate the second commandment. They trivialize Christianity. Jesus is Divine; the doll are not. If they do (in your mind) represent Jesus would you be incensed if some kid drop kicks one or throws it in a pile of dirty toys and clothes?

Children playing with these dolls will no more realize that Jesus cares about everything in their lives than playing with marbles. They may develop thinking that is contrary to Scripture and that will, in the long run, take them away from the very Savior that you would like to see them embrace.

The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, not dolls. Preaching is the means that God ordained to reach the lost, not dolls.

How is the use of these dolls any different than the RCC use of statues of Mary and saints?

One said, "If one child comes to Jesus because of this, it will be worth it."

I say, "What about the five who embrace Catholic teaching because of it?"

Why is it so far fetched to believe this may happen? You hand out 50 dolls. One comes to Jesus in truth. But there are another 49 who will not. Of those 49, how many will get the wrong idea about Jesus, as a direct result of your use of an idolatrous image?

The risk is too great to justify the hope of winning just one.

The doll is the mechanism in sharing the Gospel, either by opening a door or the message contained, so your argument has holes.

 I hardly think these dolls are being given out to worship, so your argument is silly.

People can use anything as an "idolatrous image".
