The constitution of our church needs to be changed...

What portion of your church Constitution needs to be changed and why.

And why has it not yet been changed?

Well, we changed or added to ours that we will not accept for membership, "same sex marriages", "practicing gays or lesbians". We did it because of hearing of a church, being taken to court and losing their case when they presented scripture, the judge said he didn't want to hear scripture, but what did their constitution say on such matters. I don't know, if we now have enough protection or not, and hope it is never put to the test. I suspect some of the larger churches located in the large cities, will see this in court.

Good question. We are in this process.

Over time, we have stopped following our constitution to the letter (became loose constructionists  ). So now that we have changed we are getting ready to change the constitution to reflect how we do things.

An example of that is that our const. mandates that in a business mtg. people write down their names and when they joined and attendance be taken. We quit doing that long ago. So that will change.

Another example is that we have moved to congregationally approved and empowered teams and committees to do remodeling and other kinds of temporary jobs (as opposed to the church having to be informed about every little step) . There's no apparatus for that in our present constitution, so we are changing that.

A word of warning, make certain that those on the committee are spiritual people who want to see the church biblical and effective AND that they are supportive of the pastor's ministry and philosophy.
