Just wondering why liberals aren't upset about the most egregious example of outsourcing we have. Now would be a good opportunity to force GM to make all their personnel cuts at their foreign plants.

582,000 Canadian jobs at stake if Big Three fail: study

    Dec 16 03:10 PM US/Eastern

A whopping 582,000 direct and indirect jobs would be lost in Canada over the next five years if the ailing Big Three US auto makers shut down their Ontario operations, said a study Tuesday.

history: Founded in 1918, GM Canada was formed by the purchase of the McLaughlin Motor Car Co., manufacturer since 1907 of the McLaughlin automobile based on the Buick Model F, Canadianized with a McLaughlin carriage as its body. From 1910 onward, the cars were well-known across Canada as McLaughlin-Buicks and prominently identified as such, in recognition of their Buick heritage.
    --------------------------------

The Canadian governments, federal and provincial, are working on redeeming the 3 major auto plants in Canada, in conjunction with the US government. We'll see what happens! Sometimes the USA and Canada behave as one.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I don't know about "liberals" but I'm upset about jobs with American countries going abroad. I'm also concerned about relaxing immigration standards to allow more foreign technical professionals to enter the country. But, since we have a Republic should we be forcing companies to do anything? We can give tax or other incentives but force? I don't think so.

Among the liberals who post here, their outrage seems to be selective.

    Or phony.

If not, here's their chance to bring 582,000 jobs back to America, but not a peep out of any of them.

    pretty much

to the liberals on this board right and wrong seems to be deteremined by who does it, or whose responsible, or even by who they precieve is responsible. theres no actual standard otherwise, right and wrong are subjective.

not really their concern I guess.

As a free-market economist I support the right of American companies to do business wherever they want and however their perceive their greatest profit potential. If they cannot do that at home they are wise to do it elsewhere. Why would you pay a worker $75 an hour when you can get the same work done for $10 a hour?

I am opposed to government intervention in a free market economy.

Ireland has a plethora of American companies. They drew them here with EU supported low taxation which allowed them to prosper. That is changing now as the companies find it too expensive to operate here so they are moving on again.

What should the US do to keep US companies from operating outside her borders?

    Sorry, Roger.

    I can't help you.

It doesn't appear any of the liberals that continually whine about outsourcing are willing to touch this one.

No one is upset about themselves saving a few bucks by buying imported stuff?

Say we pulled all the troops home and sealed the border against everything but raw material. I suppose we could have a contained 1948 society. Anyone want that?

We are importing scientists because most Americans are ignorant in math and science. In Washington State one must demonstrate 10th grade competency to graduate from high school and half the freshman class at the University of Washington (90+ GPA required) need remedial math classes.

Do they still teach readin' 'ritin & 'rithmetic in school anymore, or are self-esteem, sex & socialism the biggies now?

How can a Christian lump a number of people into a group and say they always act the same? Jesus didn't do that. He treated everyone as an individual, a person whose hairs on their heads had been numbered by God.

The way I see Jesus' name thrown around on this board to "justify" some comments gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "IN VAIN".

My view is that if, oh let's say IBM, wants to service its customers in India, hire Indians in Bangalore and Mumbai. If they want to service their US customers, those jobs should be in the USA.

One good thing about outsourcing, it has been an excellent tool in dealing with union abuse, and restrictive liberal oversight. A lot of American companies would have folded long ago, if not for outsourcing.

So you're in favor of GM closing their Canadian plants and bringing those 582,000 jobs back to the U.S.?

For the record, my heart burn with outsourcing was Bush gave American companies tax incentives to send American jobs overseas. I can't fault the companies for trying to turn a profit but I can fault my government for paying them to do it.

They like wise could have done better with less corporate waste at the top end. With all the profit margins gained by off shoring, why are they closing their doors and laying off like a wet dog trying to get dry?

Also, if management had treated labor fair there would be no unions. Organized labor came about to demand management share the fruits of their labor all around.

Why is it different to see 582K out of a job than it is to see 582K American's out of a job? Starving people are starving people no matter what flag you salute. God loves us all...

    He did not.

The enormity of your misunderstanding of his actions is mindboggling.

So you have no objection to these particular 582,000 outsourced jobs?
