    Interesting.

They are giving Dr. Patterson a soft landing so that those in the denomination who revere him will not be too upset. I hope they can move forward and rebuild the seminary in terms of students and finances now that Dr. Patterson is no longer calling the shots.

Dr. Patterson called the meeting. It is likely he removed himself.

I was glad to see that Nathan Montgomery has apparently been cleared. I wonder if he will get his job and scholarship back.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. He doesn't know that they gave him a soft landing. He just speaks as if his wish list were true and yea, he is hoping for that.

No. Their FTE student numbers have been falling precipitously for a number of years and they are in difficult financial straits.

I’m hoping that a change in leadership can reverse that trend.

It would be nice, being a pastor and all, if you would not bear false witness against others.

Disgraceful that SBC allowed this to happen.

The seminary does not have a pastor... it is not a church. I wouldn’t mind having more female professors there, but it is not my business if Southwestern and the SBC don’t want to do that.

The reality of the situation is that Dr. Patterson was quite uneven regarding public positions and what he allowed and disallowed.

For instance, Dr. Patterson has taken the public position that a person who speaks in tongues, publicly or privately, would not be hired, nor continue to be employed, but the seminary. That position was also issued by the SWBTS board of trustees, so it was definitely official policy.

However, throughout all of those pronouncements, he allowed a professor, E Earle Ellis, to teach there (who served at “the President’s pleasure”) who was well-known in the seminary community as a person who privately spent me in tongues, and that information was part of his classes on the writings of Paul, especially 1 Corinthians. These viewpoints and testimony was also in print in his books. Earle Ellis and the Patterson’s were good friends and traveled together, and Paige Patterson was aware of his views and practice. I asked Earle why he was still allowed to teach there and all he gave me was the cryptic response, “I am more conservative than the President,” referring to Patterson.

That’s far to simplistic of a reason. There were many reasons to do this. The seminary is in crisis as far as students and finances. They need new leadership.

So His viewpoints from the Bible on male headship did not cause any of this then?

They were "in crisis" because Satan is attacking. They are now truly in crisis because they surrendered to the criticism of the wicked. They compromised. They caved.
