She spoke at two of their conventions. Was your attitude towards Hillary Clinton at all influenced by your feelings about her husband?

Vermont was a republic from July 1777 until 1791 when it was admitted as the
    14th state.

There is a group in Vermont now that wants Vermont to withdraw from the Union and become an independent republic again. My guess is there are groups like this in most states.

Half Truths, Meant to Smear Palin

According to those who responded to your post, you have presented information that is meant to smear Palin's love of this nation. In some cases, we're talking about info that was hot news fodder more than 13 years ago. I read this very same post in my local paper today, and it does not report anything about Palin's stand today, and she was never linked directly to the AIP. Secondly, there are many states that have at one time or another, thought about leaving the Union of States. This is their right, isn't it? But, it doesn't make her any less an American. If she was a loyal, card carrying AIP member, she would not have accepted the invitation to be the Veep.

Shame on you for bringing up past issues in an attempt to smear and call in question her loyalty to this nation.

I agree, so both Palins should explain their beliefs on this issue now.

What do you mean 13 years ago? The tape on the web site I posted was the video that was played at the Alaska Independent Party's convention THIS YEAR.

Sarah Palin's ties to Alaskan Independence Party are played down

The McCain campaign denies his running mate supports the party's separatist bent.
By Michael Finnegan, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
    September 3, 2008

Tonight, Sarah Palin will be nominated as the Republican Party's choice for vice president of the United States.

But back home, she has cheered the work of a tiny party that long has pushed for a statewide vote on whether Alaska should secede from those same United States. And her husband, Todd, was a member of the party for seven years.

"Keep up the good work," Sarah Palin told members of the Alaskan Independence Party in a videotaped speech to their convention six months ago in Fairbanks. She wished the party luck on what she called its "inspiring convention."

The Alaskan Independence Party, founded in 1978, initially promoted "the Alaskan independence movement." But now, according to its website, "its primary goal is merely a vote on secession."

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds said Tuesday that Palin did not support splitting Alaska off from the rest of the country. He sidestepped the question of whether she favored a statewide vote on secession.

I'm sorry you seem to want to cover up aspects of a candidate for VP of the United States. I try to get as much information as I can. There are a lot of smears on candidates on this board. I'd say 75% of them are against Obama.

Simply telling the truth is not a smear. Remember that.

What is so bad about folks wanting to form their own nation?

Isnt that what the colonies did in 1776? And we celebrate that.

Alaska is as big as Texas, California and Montana combined, and they are several hundred miles from the US lower 48. They have a different culture and a different history than the lower 48. There are many reasons why being a sovereign nation might benefit Alaska. Perhaps they want to join Canada? I dont know, and dont care, but the idea that folks are traitors for wanting to govern themselves is ridiculous.

If they voted to get into the union, then they should be allowed to vote to get out. I dont think that folks that want to govern themselves are unpatriotic to the US. I am sure they love the US, but maybe they feel they can govern themselves better than Washington can,,,,and they are probably right.

From the website I read that they pledge full compliance to the constitution of the US. Here is the link

    http://www.akip.org/platform.html

    Platform and Goal
    of the
    Alaskan Independence Party

    Preamble

We affirm that all political power is inherent in the people; that all government originates with the people, is founded on their will only, is instituted to protect the rights of the individual; that all persons have a natural right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the enjoyment of the rewards of their own industry; that all persons are equal and entitled to equal protection under the law. We stand on a firm constitutional foundation.

    Platform
We pledge to exert our best efforts to accomplish the following:

    1. To effect full compliance with the constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Alaska.
    2. To support and defend States' Rights, Individual Rights, Property Rights, and the Equal Footing Doctrine as guaranteed by the constitutions of the United States of America and the state of Alaska.
    3. To advocate the convening of a State Constitutional Convention at the constitutionally designated 10 year interval.
    4. To reinforce the unalienable rights endowed by our Creator to Alaska law, by eliminating the use of the word "privilege" in the Alaska statutes.
    5. To amend the Constitution of the State of Alaska so as to re-establish the rights of all Alaskan residents to entry upon all public lands within the state, and to acquire private property interest there in, under fair and reasonable conditions. Such property interest shall include surface and sub-surface patent.
    6. To foster a constitutional amendment abolishing and prohibiting all property taxes.
    7. To seek the complete repatriation of the public lands, held by the federal government, to the state and people of Alaska in conformance with Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17, of the federal constitution.
    8. To prohibit all bureaucratic regulations and judicial rulings purporting to have the effect of law, except that which shall be approved by the elected legislature.
    9. To preserve and protect the Alaska Permanent Fund, Permanent fund earnings, earnings reserve fund and individual Permanent Fund Dividends.
    10. To provide for the direct popular election of the attorney general, all judges, and magistrates.
    11. To provide for the development of unrestricted, statewide, surface transportation and utility corridors as needed by the public or any individual.
    12. To affirm and assert every possible right-of-way established under R.S. 2477 of July 26, 1866, before its repeal by the Federal Land Management Policy Act of October 21, 1976.
    13. To support the right of the individual to keep and bear arms.
    14. To support the complete abolition of the concept of sovereign or governmental immunity, so as to restore accountability for public servants.
    15. To support the rights of parents to privately or home school their children.
    16. To support the privatization of government services.
    17. To oppose the borrowing of money by government for any purposes other than for capital improvements.
    18. To strengthen the traditional family and support individual accountability without government interference or regulation.
    19. To support the right of jurors to judge the law as well as the facts, according to their conscience.
    20. To support "Jobs for Alaskans...First!"

The question is not about the right of a state to withdraw from the union, it is about the loyality of a person who desires that their state withdraw. Palin's husband apparently believes Alaska should do so. This, by association, throws Palin's loyality to the USA in doubt until she explains her position. It would help her if her husband renounced his stance.

Interesting tid-bit. Thanks for giving me the link. I'd like to see more. He really did not give a speech ... if this link quoted all he said. So, I would like to see more from him. She is quoted more than her husband.

The double standard of those defending the republican party over things that are so similar to why the bash they democratic party makes me SICK!

I can tell you, after watching all the debates....all the commercial ads, all the interviews....that I'm probably not voting for either party's nominee, and that of the two candidates I like Obama the best....but not sure if I like him the best as president...but I just like him the best based on interviews/debates/ etc.

I'll be finding a good third party nominee. Any suggestions from anyone else who can relate? Crabtownboy, I know you're still figuring it out, is there a third person you are looking at?

Just More Smear From the Liberals

I count this as trash can litter, and nothing more. How many times have the Baptist churches split from the main denomination? It is the right of any nation in this country to split and leave. However, I predict the Palin's and Alaska are so proud of their Sarah, that they will be sticking around in this Union for a while longer now.
