Paris Hilton's mom takes offense at McCain's humor

WASHINGTON (AP) — Paris Hilton's mother doesn't share John McCain's sense of humor.

McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, said last week that his campaign ad mocking Democrat Barack Obama with images of Hilton and singer Britney Spears was part of an attempt to inject humor into the presidential race.

On Sunday, Hilton's mother, Kathy Hilton, a McCain donor, registered her disapproval.

"It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs," Kathy Hilton said "And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next president of the United States."

The ad plays on Obama's popularity by dismissing him as a mere celebrity, like Hilton and Spears. The Obama campaign has said the ad is proof that McCain would rather launch negative attacks than debate important issues.

McCain on Friday denied that his campaign had taken a negative turn, saying, "We think it's got a lot of humor in it, we're having fun and enjoying it."

Kathy Hilton, however, was unpersuaded, calling the ad "a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign."

Kathy Hilton and her husband donated a total of $4,600 to McCain's campaign earlier this year.

I think they should ask for the money back

McCain ad about Obama may backfire

I actually think this low road by McCain in the guise of humor will turn even more women away from him , when he should be trying to gain in that area. When ever a Mom comes out to protect a daugher , yes even Paris Hilton it resonates.

but McCain is standing up for that Ad which in my opinion is a mistake the crowd gives him a tepid response which is a bad sign.

He only showed two of the more prominent celebrities the press reports on today. By lumping Obama in with them shouldn't offend the Spears' or Hilton's. This shows how ignorant Mrs. Hilton is, IMO.

People will take offense at the stupidest things. If Mrs. Hilton doesn't want her daughter to be a media magnet, she should have done a better job as a mother (including showing her how to dress, and what articles of clothing are a necessity and not optional).

Agreed. Instead of public grandstanding and feigning outrage, why couldn't Mrs. Hilton use her energies more wisely, like trying to derail the trainwreck that is her childrens' lives? Then again, if she could have done that, she likely would have by now. So I guess grandstanding and fake outrage it is. :type:

McCain has made an enemy of a (very) rich supporter by using Paris. He had to know her mother would be offended and angry. Now she has righteous indignation empowering her outrage and a willing audience in the media.

What does her outrage have to do with McCain's ability or lack of ability of being president? Side issues such as this should be totally ignored.

BOTH Kathy Hilton and McCain are being rather ridiculous. Who cares? Anyone who would take 1. a campaign add seriously, or 2. not vote/vote for a candidate because of how they are portrayed in an add is seriously lacking in the area of discernment anyway.

It is rather funny how McCain's attempt at "humor" has turned sour. Partisan politics has sunk to an all time low.

    But they are truly worthless...

but then again, our country is full of idiots...

Just look who people voted for in the primaries...

    OOOOOOO

Nothing. Did someone imply that it does? It may, however, impact his chances for winning the election. Whether he gains enough votes with those who agree with the ad to overcome those turned off by the ad is what matters to him.

What side issue are you referring to? The ad or the fact that Paris is in the ad?

Let's see if I've got this right....

Mama Kathy Hilton is outraged that McCain's campaign used an image of her precious little daughter Paris in an ad.

Was Mama Kathy as bent out of shape when videos of her precious little daughter Paris's s*x'capades hit it big??

    Hmmmm.
