i'm hopeful but not optimistic--i will rejoice if anyone gets saved fr the movie.

however, there IS a difference between moving closer to God n moving closer to Rome, n not many evangelicals or baptists can tell the difference.

I think you can do both.

I'll be interested to see the movie, but I won't be so foolish as to praise it or condemn it until I do.

Any film on this topic faces the challenge of consolidating and fleshing out the Gospel accounts. Mel Gibson met that challenge as his faith and art dictated. Perhaps (in fact, probably) I'll see scenes where I might have made different choices. Others will strike me as right on target. Taken all together, I'll decide whether (in my never-humble opinion) he did a "good job" or not.

And Mel won't care what I think!

I think it is great that this movie is one of the leading movies that does not hatchet the Bible text in favor of Liberal theology and historic criticism of God.

Thank you for your comments, Brother Adam. You're so right about how our "passion" should be for Jesus Christ Himself. I don't want to say I'm right and pro-Passion film people are wrong, nor that I'm more biblically accurate. I don't mean to question people, I do want us all to ask good questions about anything marketed as a "Jesus Product" or a great evangelical tool. Yet I also recall how Mary and clan thought Jesus was "beside Himself" at one point, and that some must have thought Jesus to be "too zealous" when He cleansed the Temple of money-changers and called Pharisees some uncomplimentary names. But we really need to unite as One Body in Christ, respecting differing opinions and seriously considering various points of view. Thanks again for your comments. Again I say, the Baptist Board is a very free and open discussion place and should be commended for allowing non-mainstream opinions. Certain Christian leaders who are pro-Israel had to sign "agreements" before they were allowed to see preview screenings, and now have to be careful what they say about the movie. What is up with this?

Exactly! Did you see new Dateline report on Jesus? I didn't watch but a christian brother who did got so angry that he had to change the station. The media will never accept the Passion movie. Note though how a movie meant to show Jesus as a homosexual is praised and wins awards.

There is an Orthodox Rabbi Lapin that makes that statement that some Jewish organizations are known to support of art and free expression that seems particularly targetted toward anti-Christian movies - art etc but is not tolerant of a plain verbatim depiction of the Gospel text.

This movie could not have done so well had it not been for the "controversy" that is in effect "the best advertisement" it could ever get.

    In Christ,

I think that the controversy was inevitable with a movie like this- whether Gibson wanted it or not. I think that the folks who will see it due to contraversy are non-Christians more than Christians, who would see it anyway.

it's true that the film doesn't swing in favour of liberalism, what w the resurrection depicted, even if ever so fleetingly.

however, what if it swings toward Romanism?

the Reformers fought hard to win us the liberties offered in Christ--if this film takes us back to Marian hyperveneration, transubstantiation, stigmatist mysticism, et al., it shdn't be congratulated.

this apparent concern for accuracy makes me wonder. why didn't we see any church buying thousands of tickets for The Gospel of John, for instance? where were Billy Graham, John Paul II, Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, n all those Romish prophets when the movie, based entirely n only on the sacred text, came out a couple of months ago? where was all the mobilisation, if indeed the truth of the gospel were paramount?

Our son, Jon, just got in from Starbuck's and said the girls there were talking about how a local church bought 11,000 tickets to the movie this coming Saturday. The girl's said 'That's not fair! What if we wanted to go?' So Jon has to explain to them that the tickets will be GIVEN away to anyone wanting to go.

I saw on the news today people that got a sneak preview of the "Passion of the Christ." It showed them going in the theatre with soft drinks, candy, ang popcorn and looking so happy.

When they came out they looked somewhat different. Some, you could tell had been crying..even grown men.

Can't wait until Friday evening. ;)

Well MEE, I've called and called and the best we can do around here is Thursday at 7:20 or 8:15, Friday, one showing at 7:20 and Saturday 7:20. The rest of the tickets are all sold out and only a few are left. My husband is going over tonight to buy us tickets for Thursday at 8:15.

The lady at the theater said people are standing in line to pre buy the tickets and they've put kioshes up with ATM type ticket machines for this movie.

Never mind! My youth minister just called. Miscommunication! Our church got 10 tickets for tonight and he thought he'd emailed me earlier so I'm outta here!

Where did you hear this? I can't imagine Mike Evans (if he was one of them) signing anything of the sort. Are you sure this isn't another one of those rumors that are being churned out?
