I was simply pointing out one place scripture commanded as a place to pray.

The first congress did it to baptize their own actions as somehow being the arm of God. They still do it because it's tradition and it makes them feel good about themselves.

And, as we see in this case, it's used as a political tool. Horrific.

That is not what was said at the first Congress... You skew both their motives and their faith that God would make a difference in this nation.

While political expediency may indeed be the case today, Congress has not halted the practice nor has Congress removed the words "one nation under God" from the Pledge, "In God We Trust" from our currency, halted the chaplaincy program in our military, nor pulled the 10 Commandments from the wall behind the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court.

Of course they didn't say it. They didn't get it. The gospel, while undoubtedly alive to some of them, was just a pleasing centerpiece on the whole. It's the same today. Keeping the Ten Commandments up or praying before assemblies is nothing more than preaching false gospel that our country is some kind of "Christian" place, which is just not the case.

You come off as very cynical. Was God not a part of the early founding of America? You would disavow the testimonies of the believers who said otherwise by so saying.

There was a variety of beliefs though. Jefferson did not believe in the miracles.

That is true. Jefferson actually modified his NT in a manner similar to Marcion, ancient heretic.

But that was one man among many, most of whom were in fact believers.

Senate committee just passed the Ky. gaming bill 7-4:

    WPSD-TV

Vocal opponent Pastor Hershael's Twitter is a real hoot:

Sad day for Kentucky... Now, on top of their other problems, they can add all the issues that surround addiction to gambling.

Here's an update. The Kentucky Senate voted 21-16 to kill the proposed casino amendment. This was on Thursday.

Governor Beshear, the son and grandson of Baptist preachers, expressed disappointment at the vote.

The issue is deader than a doornail. But it will be back someday.

Would like to see the Rev. Hershael take on Kentucky Derby betting next.

Here he is giving his victory speech/prayer to the Senate.

Having been stung previously by criticism his prayers were thinly veiled lectures to legislators, Rev. Hershael chose to pray in a tongue "probably only God can understand".

People need to realize that property values go down and police protection is increased around casinos. Crime goes up.

Ha! That couldn't have been very edifying for those Colonel legislators! Ps. 118 in biblical Hebrew!

When my wife and I lived in Louisville, we lived about a mile and a half from Churchhill Downs. It was a ROUGH part of town. If the close to million visitors a year knew what they were driving into for the derby they would never visit again, but during Derby time they paste all sort of nice stuff in the area to cover over the utter sin and degregation that exists in that area.

For most of the year it is not even safe to drive around in that area... One of the highest crime zones of the city, an area where strip clubs and prostitution are rampant, and where drug use is higher than most parts of the city. It is a dump... Except for the pretty stuff that the city has provided to lure in visitors who spend their money.

A second thought... God gave us the spectacular beauty of watching awesome creatures called horses run. Oh, that we could do just that without having to invoke all the sin that goes along with the practice. I've stood at the railing in the third turn and had the dirt from the hooves hit me as the horses pounded the ground rounding the curve. What magnificent animals! But I did not go to bet, nor did I go to participate in the sin. I went -- once -- to see the horses.
