Just got a bike from a pastor of a Reformed church. He was openly carrying a handgun. I did not know this but in SC its legal to carry a gun. In my birth-state of California I do not believe one can walk around with a gun on them unless they are law enforcement, or I could be wrong.

good thing that you said that he was reformed, for if from a 'free will" church, he packed the God just in case the person was deciding to back on his profession of faith!

((No offense intended, JUST a joke!)

Well I'm not J Frank Norris...but I don't believe I will ever carry a gun for "protection" in such a way.

The only difference between a pistol-packing preacher and any other citizen is his job. As long as he's competent and legal, no problems here.

I agree with Arbo. Legal, competent, responsible...even though it may seem unusual, there's nothing wrong with it. I would suspect there are far more pastors carrying concealed, in accordance with their state's law.

Good for him. If more people carried we'd have less crime.

Enjoy your rights while you can folks.

But a whole lot more accidental shootings and accidental deaths.

I doubt there would be less crime. Probably more second degree murders.

Well, let's look at the numbers (these are for the US):

    1. From the 1980s until 2010, the number of Concealed Carry Permits holders had risen from under 1,000,000 to over 6,000,000.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34714389/ns/us_news-life/t/record-numbers-licensed-pack-heat/

    2. Crime rates have been decreasing since 1980.

    http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

As you can see in the link, the number of crimes has gone down by 22% since 1980, while the population has grown by 27%. The crime rate is steadily decreasing.

    3. Accidental shootings are steadily decreasing.

    http://www.thesurvivorsclub.org/extreme/surviving-accidents/accidental-shooting

    http://www.tincher.to/deaths.htm

So, are these related? Maybe, maybe not. But, it completely nullifies your statements.

Just typical liberal drivel with no supporting facts.

At all those mass shootings at high schools/college...

Could a teacher armed with pistol stopped it from happening possible?

Respectfully, I would disagree. Not to many years ago, private ownership of handguns was virtually outlawed in Australia, and now politicians are at a loss to explain why violent crime has increased so much.

In the meantime, the FBI has just released statistics on violent crime in the U.S., which has been declining for the last four years. Coincidentally, there are more concealed carry permits issued every year.

I know this is a touchy subject, because handguns imply the possibility of violence. So I hope everyone's opinion is respected.

Myself: I am a pastor and a permit holder.

I have a concealed carry permit, as well as a number of other members of our church, including our pastor.

The reason why I know about other members is that our church has sponsored several CCP courses taught by a certified trainer. These were well attended by both men and women in our church and local community.

Crime rates would go down even more, if instead of assuming most people are unarmed, the premise were to change to assuming most people can adequately defend themselves.

Wonder what the percentage of those killed accidently would be compared to those killed by criminals who presume that non-criminals are unarmed. Yes, I'm sure the percentage would go up if the general public were armed. However, I'm comfortably sure the total death rate would go down. In a sense, who cares if the accidental percentage rises 200% if there are actually 200 fewer deaths?

maybe he just came from a shooting range. Do you know the whole story? I used to live in Arizona, long time ago, I saw a lot of people openly carrying pistols. It did create an atmosphere of don't mess with that guy. I'm not sure if that's the atmosphere a pastor wants IMO. Maybe he tells unbelievers to convert or die...lol. Sorry just had to.

Gun deaths are about 30,000 a year. So lets save 50,000 lives a year and 3 million injuries.

Its simple - out law motor vehicles - should be easy as cars is not guarentee constitional right
