Even if they were willing to accept, there is zero chance of it happening.

Ron Paul has virtually nothing in common with anyone in either major party. Virtually.

They probably have the same ideas on foreign policy as both are against neo-cons and flag-wavers, evidently. Also, they both would believe in states rights for abortion, which would allow the big states to choose to continue the practice, states rights for same-sex marriage, and no death penalty. They probably both would favor the legalization of drugs and prostitution.

They probably would be at each other's throats over how much money to spend domestically but both would call for a scaled-back military, and perhaps even a hollow army. Perhaps they could paper over their difference for purposes of winning the election and gaining power.

This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I agree, except for the war, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Yeah, they could establish the "Fruitcake Party". Nothing personal against fruitcakes (the edible kind).

They would both agree on a live and let live domestic agenda that would include legalization of drugs and prostitution. Both would allow abortion if a state wanted it and both would allow same-sex marriage if a state wanted it. On capital punishment, both would be opposed, although Paul would allow a state to execute but not good ole Paul himself as President. Paul believes in live and let murder without punishment by death.

Can't type much. Recovering from shoulder surgery.

OP: Won't happen. Idea reminds me of Ronald Reagan saying he would choose liberal Republican Senator Richard Schweizer as his running mate in 1976 if he won GOP nomination.

Hope your shoulder gets well soon, Ken!

I think that the implication of this thread is that strange things happen when you start dealing with third party candidates and people who think that the system has shut them out of one of the two parties. However, the history of the third parties is that after the first election or two, they start to lose members. This is certainly the experience of the Libertarian Party.

 You wouldn't know a communist if it crawled into your bed and bit you on the ear. You really need to get some political and economic education outside that John Birch/McCarthy filter.
