TS, Bro. Curtis put it very well in his post above. Nobody but you attacked anyone. You insulted Curtis' father in law, said he must not be able to read, and when you are asked to substantiate a post, you get defensive and change the subject. You still have not provided evidence, but only insults and dodges.

I too am sorry to hear of your loss, but that was not the topic of this thread.

    Peace

Edited to add: I never attacked or insulted you. I did (rightfully) ask you to substantiate your assertions.

So you know what others "wanted" to do? No one cares a hoot about your credibility...just that you honor copyright and proper attribution.

    Magnetic Pole,

I never said a WORD about Curtis' father in law.
Nor was I the first person to bring up the fact that the thread came across as an attack.

Are all your facts as much in error?

In T.S.' defense, it was Patrick who was rude towards my F-I-L.

I personally think that as God looks down on this conversation that he is saddened by the actions of his children and wishes you all would at least act like you love one another.
There thats my 2 cents worth. [IMG]

Just from reading the 4 pages of bickering I do think the argument started because if M. Poles will come clean he just doesn't like alot of the article that P.Harvey might have read. It just seems that way to me. MP went "skeptical" from the get go just because the piece was just a little to strong for his moderate leanings which he reveals on almost everything he posts on this board be it politics, theology etc...
I don't care who wrote the thing. I wish I had written it.
The problem we have now in this country is we view those who see everything in "shades of gray" as those who are the most wise.
So Mag Poles just give us your true thoughts on the article so we can determine if you are hiding some bias. I bet you are that is why you had to challenge the source and not the content. Because the content rubbed you wrong.

In her second post on this thread, TexasSky said very plainly that she heard PH read this on his program. Are you guys calling her a liar???

    1. No, with explanation.
'Liar' refers to one who lies.
'Lie' means 1.1.a - 'a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive

Being unauthorized on this BB to impute motive we cannot
    call anybody a liar.
I do believe that TexasSky did NOT hear Paul Harvey read that said
in the OP = opening post, as his own.

    2. You don't have the right to ask this question.
You also are unauthorized on this BB to impute motive.

    Well here's a question.

Do you think TexasSky is telling the truth?

    Ed,

If you mean did I hear Paul Harvey say, "I wrote this," you're correct in saying I didn't hear that. Then again, I never said I heard Harvey claim it as his own. I said I heard it on his program and assume he supports the view point of it. I usually assume that most of what Paul Harvey reads is not his own work.

However, having heard it on his program, and then receiving an email that credited it to him, I had no reason to doubt that he wrote it. Especially given the fact that Harvey HAS boldly stated some Christian viewpoints very strongly, even when he knew it might get him into trouble.

The rest is to others - not Ed.

As I mentioned earlier. I wrote both Snopes.com and the people who "sell" the Paul Harvey show to the syndications, asking for an answer. Snopes responded that they sometimes list things as "false" even if "most of it" is true, and they said they base "true or false" on "opinions of the owners of snopes." In other words, they don't necessarily "check out every story."

However, that said, as I posted on the board, snopes seemes to believe that Harvey picked up the story from a sports writer, and that the Denver Post incorrectly credited it to Harvey, which lead to many other people likewise crediting Harvey.

The Harvey people have not responded one way or the other.

All things considered - given that the Denver Post, normally a reliable paper, first credited Harvey in public with it, and that MOST people don't grab a paper and check to confirm the newspaper is correct in who they credit, I think it is rude to start throwing around lables like "liar."

I trusted the source who sent it to me crediting Paul Harvey.
They trusted the source who sent it to THEM...
Eventually.. .someone must have trusting the Denver Post.

So labeling someone "liar" over that is rude, and actually, inaccurate. It also borders on spreading false wittness as it is not "lying" to state what you believe to be the truth.

Sadly, that observation applies to the bulk of what you'll see not only on this site but on most other Christian sites as well. Why can't we learn to (1) Discuss what's truly worth discussing, and (2) Do it in the spirit of 1 Peter 3:15-16? I know Baptists are often proud of being contentious, but there is a place for patience, humility, compassion, and understanding in our disagreements, isn't there?

...it is not "lying" to state what you believe to be the truth.

And it is not un-Christian to point out that it may not be the truth.
