Just read that the "Vietnam War" (as called by my generation in the US) is referred to in Vietnam as the "American War".

Guess it is another battle of "persepective".

I thought it was their civil war that we tried to help with, and the side we were backing lost. So why would they call it the American War?

Well, the Vietnamese could hardly call it the Vietnam war.
All wars in Vietnam are Vietnam wars.

This sort of thing makes me spit with rage, mainly cos it involved a percentage of Aussies and New Zealanders as well...

Ok, would it be better if the Vietnamese referred to it as the American-Aussie-Kiwi War?

What about Vietnam's War for self-determination? With interlude's from 1947 modifications of the Monroe Doctrine, commonly called the Truman Doctrine, or Domino Effect?

While I am not a flower child, from what I can tell; it was a political war, can those ever be won? It was probably lost in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu, oops, now I have offended the French Foreign Legion...where does it all end?
