I was trying to post a reply to someone asking about gay Christians but the topic disappeared as I tried to post. I decided to start a new one since I wanted to post this info on Yancey anyway.

The main church for homosexual Christians, the Metropolitan Community Church, was found about a decade ago, I believe. I might be off by a few years there -- might have been earlier. Their website is now lobbying for people to keep the Federal Marriage Ammendment from being passed.

There are many homosexuals who claim to be saved and they also do not find a problem with homosexuality. They even use scripture for this. What is also happening is that some evangelicals are agreeing with this, or seeming to agree.

There is an online "Christian" magazine for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Trangendered Christians called Whosoever. Here is their statement of faith:

Notice points 6, 7 and 8. Here is point 8:
    Point 7 is equally disturbing.

Christian author Philip Yancey recently gave an interview to this magazine. He said some interesting things like this:
Here's a response to Yancey's remarks by Take Heed Ministries:

As I am aware and I could be wrong, A number of Congregational churches in the U.S are ok with practising Homosexual Christians.

The liberals attack Sodomy and attempt to prove that it is not what is suggested in the Bible. Yet at the end of the day, the mark of a false teacher is one who attacks the Bible and suggests that it doesnt really mean what it says, it works for Liberals, and it also works for the WCOG type movements that need it to advocate their false doctrines.

Hence both groups are as bad as each other. Be they pro gay, or Anti gay yet pro other false teachings.

Yancey definitely has a tendency to paint a little close to the lines on these matters. He is an excellent writer though. I will always remember his definition of grace: "God can never love me any more or less than he loves me right now."

But his view of grace seems tainted to me now -- he applies this same "grace" to people who are involved in ongoing sin without repenting, and/or who do not see it as sin yet claim to trust Christ.
