This is just semantics and you know it. persist in your ignorance if you wish. As through a glass darkly, the scripture tells us. Your glass is simply darker than most.

Now MK you're going to hurt his feelings. Feelings? Are they in the mind or the brain? If you read an insult does it make your eyes hurt? :tonofbricks:

You can't hurt feelings. Feelings are immaterial and so cannot be hurt.

BTW - a birdie told me it's your birthday! Happy birthday! :D

I guess if any of you were in the Garden of Eden you would have prescribed medication for Adam and Eve.

Seems to be the norm today, give 'em a pill to cover the sin.

I'd say not since we can't prescribe meds. :)

The only thing worse than being bull-headed, is knowing you're bull-headed and continue to try to convince others that you're sensible.

I have no doubt that those who advocate the fabled "mental illness" theory would also be in allegiance with the DSM that diagnoses Samson as having Anti-Social Personality Disorder.

What a deceptive web psychiatrists spin.

Try going 72 hours without sleep and note how your mood and clarity of thought are affected.

No, but I'd bet you were not as mentally sharp and your mood changed. It's an example of the mind being affected by the condition of the brain.

I have never claimed that the mind cannot be affected. I have pointed out the fact that the mind, being immaterial, cannot get sick.

Can I ask where you did your science degree? Medical degree? What gives you the credibility to make such statements?

Stead- I think jaigner's question is legit, given your steadfast:smilewinkgrin: opinion. I'd also like to know, because frankly, you come across as a college kid heavy on theory but light on practical. No insult intended, just observation.

Your observation would be incorrect. I have not been in college in more than a decade.

So Fred, do you also believe that ADD and ADHD are just symptoms of sin in a child? Do you believe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is just a "sin?"

Diagnosis and DMS revision article that is a really good read: http://www.peh-med.com/content/pdf/1747-5341-7-3.pdf

Are DSM diagnoses more like constructs or more like
diseases? We would like to have the positions of each
of the five epistemological umpires stated as clearly
    as possible.
Umpire 1) There are balls and there are strikes and
I call them as they are.
Umpire 2) There are balls and there are strikes and
I call them as I see them.
Umpire 3) There are no balls and there are no
    strikes until I call them.
Umpire 4) There are balls and there are strikes and
I call them as I use them.
Umpire 5) Don’t call them at all because the game
    is not fair.
Could you please the position of the umpire which
    you endorse?

This article helps explain the process the medical community works through in revising the DMS manual which by the way is under constant review and refreshment just as surgical techniques and practices of individual surgeons.

Fred seems to desire visible proof for that which there will never be, but then so does the scientific community in relation to spiritual matters.

Doesn't mean that either side is wrong in the skepticism, just maybe from different sides of Missouri (the "show me" state).

What is a sin is for either side (science vs Fred so to speak) to make Pharisaical dogmatic and demeaning statements as if such statements were actually supportive of their own myopic view. Most times verbal and physical displays of intolerance and ridicule follow such thinking and the "holders of the truth" gather in the camps gated by the walls of pride and arrogance.

Just as there are KJV only, KJV prefered, KJV tolerant, KJV rejected, and the I Don't Care groups, the extremes will always flail about the edges and be marginalized by those who earnestly seek wisdom - especially wisdom from God.

Fred, I did not "aquire" my mental illness through sinning, I was born with it.

Any malfunction of the brain that manifests itself in behavioral changes by disrupting the normal thought process of the mind is in fact a mental illness.

Some people are born with bodies that dont maintain proper blood sugar, some dont maintain proper iron, and mine doesnt maintain certain minerals that my brain needs to function properly. So i take a pill to correct it.

No drug or alcohol abuse by me or my parents. No addiction to porn. No serial killers or even aldulterers.

I absolutely resent the statements you make about how I am hiding sin behind a pill.

What in the h*ll does sin have to do with mental illness?

I noticed on another thread that you even equate demonic manifestions with sin.

What gives man? Are you perfect?

I remember something about pride coming before the fall. Man, you are so full of pride I can see you starting to fall from here.

I lived through 50 years of hell when i was undiagnosed. The past three years have been a complete turn around. The doctors tell me that if my illness was not physical in nature then the lithium would have a severe adverse effect on my nervous system. The fact that the lithium works together with my problems dating all the way back before elementary school makes them quite sure that I was born with a chemical imbalance. I didnt do anything to cause it.

If sin caused mental illness then we would all be crazy.

    John
