Many years ago when I first started witnessing to strangers I would start by saying, I am very interested in going to heaven. Could you please tell me what you think I must do to go to heaven? Without flail everyone would give me an answer. Question; what kind of answers do you think I received?

All kinds, every conceivable kind, I once was told by a 21 year-old man in the foothills of Kentucky. One of the things you must do is not tell a lie, also my sister belongs to theworldwide Church of God. When I asked him what his head to do with his salvation his answer was well it can't hurt!!

I would like to see someone compile a book of this type - things people say when you ask them if they're saved.

Here's one of my more memorable ones - I nocked on the door, a thirtyish ladie opened it. When I asked her if she knew for sure if she was going to heaven when she dies, she said "No, because my mother is God." After a few seconds of mouth hanging open, not knowing where to go from there, I bid her a good day and asked to if she would take a gospel tract and read it. She said "No, I told you, my mother is God!"
    That was that.

Do you have any more you can share with us?

The usual response to the question, are you sure you go to heaven if you died right now is, well you know I'm hoping or I'm not too bad person or(and young people often say this) I have not done anything terribly wrong like kill someone or something. Just yesterday while witnessing on parking lot a man engaged me in meanless, tackless, rabbit trails debate. Normally I would just dodge around him and gone on but because I was sent up in such a manner that it would've taken a long-time to breakdown I must've talked to him for an hour. I'm disgusted with myself for having done this because after some 30 years of witnessing I certainly know the tricks of the enemy. And when a person is witnessing and he meets one of these debaters I feel this is the way the enemy has of preventing you from witnessing. Once while witnessing to a nurse I ask her was she saved. Yes she said, me and my whole family. There's my husband and I and our two children(both these children were under 15) and none of us smoke, drink or talk dirty. After telling her that none of these things qualified her to go to heaven she plainly asked me, well what would qualify me to go to heaven. And I explained to her as she could be saved she said okay. However she did not pray with me and about a year later I was back in the same office at which time she came to me and said well my family and I can so and so church and we have all accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and I want to thank you for telling me about salvation. I'd never seen the Lady sense.

This question about heaven only works on some people. When I was in the New Age, if someone had asked me this question, I would have said either, "What do you mean by heaven?" or "No, I'm not going to heaven but I will be going somewhere before I reincarnate and come back again."

I'm not putting this up as a joke; I'm deadly serious. A significant percentage of people believe in reincarnation.

This is what you can ask a New Ager who believes in reincarnation:
"How many lives do you think you will have to live before you are liberated/enlightened?"

"Who will decide that you don't have to reincarante anymore?"

"What will happen to you after you are liberated? Where do you go and what does it mean?"

Most New Agers see the ultimate end as way off in the future and don't really have good answers. So asking these questions might allow them to see that and give you a chance to talk about reincarnation vs. the incarnation.

That's what I hear the most too. I use to think that myself.

Marcia, thank you for that post. It does seem like reincarnation is getting more popular. At least I'm hearing about it more from people.

She was probably a liberal member of the CBF...you know how those liberals like to refer to God as mother?

Or maybe she was a new Catholic and misunderstood devotion to the Mother of God.

Sorry about the last post. I added the reply by mistake.

Most people when asked respond in a couple of ways. "I'm all set", or I'm all set, I'm Catholic". " I got saved along time ago but don't feel the need to go to church". The other one:"I'm a good person. God will let me in I hope".

If people are not seeking the truth and willing to stand on it no matter what it reveals, they will be content with their religious beleifs no matter if true or not.We MUST worship God in Spirit and in truth!

One I've heard a few times is "If God wants me he can have me." No concern for their souls.

I believe we live in a time of so much religion and individual preferences that people have become desensitized to the truth. It doesn't matter. Believe what you want. All roads lead to heaven.

Almost every day I go out witnessing. And without flail someone will give as their reason for believing they will go to heaven is that they believe. It is at this time that I gently tell them what JAMES 2:19 has to say about this, that the devils also believe, and trimble. Most everyone when I tell them this are shocked. Why I did not know the Bible said that!!!!

Marcia makes a very important point.

Also, I have had people tell me that they are not worried about it, because there is no Heaven.
Death is the end in their view.
