Er...not sure whether to put this here or under polls, but I'm sure a friendly mod will move it if necessary.

    The website

    http://www.politicalcompass.org/

Gives a survey you can fill out to find out where you lie on a political compass. I'd be really interested to see where other people lie.

You'll maybe be surpirsed to learn that I wasn't as loony-left as you (or I) thought:- economic -2.25, authoritarian -1.64. IN fact I'm shocked at how close to the centre I'm getting as I get older - must be something to do with running my own business and having had enough of representing criminal types, I guess.

    Yours in Christ

Matt (soon to become a reactionary old right-winger  )

    Economic Left/Right: 1.22
    Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.58

Hmm. Go figure. Although, the -7.58 probably keeps me in the "loony left" category. [IMG]

    Fun!

    Economic Left/Right: 3.75
    Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.26

Just about where I would have predicted myself. Right of center and a leaning a little libertarian.

Ok, I don't necessarily understand these results, but here they are:

    Economic Left/Right -3.88
    Authoritarian/Libertarian 0.15

Would somebody like to explain to my pea brain what this means? LOL

Hiya. Your scores go on a scale from -10 to 10, looking like this:

    Economic left Economic right
    -10 -9 -8 . . . -0- . . . 8 9 10

    Libertarian Authoritarian
    -10 -9 -8 . . . -0- . . . 8 9 10

So, me, I'm close to center on economic issues, but leaning slightly right (1.22), and pretty securely libertarian on social isses (-7.58).

And it looks like you're close to center on both, although more left of center on the economic issues.

    Economic Left/Right: 6.62
    Authoritarian/Libertarian: 4.72

Wonder why the poll kept referring to me saying "Mrs. Thatcher, you've already voted"?

Explanation - positive numbers are on the "right" (conservative) side; negative on the "left" or liberal

Second set positive are on the "authoritarian" or big govt side; negative on the libertarian or individual freedom side.

So a 6.62 and 4.72 put me with Atilla the Hun . .

And InHim and Jim scare me. Is that an English thing to be so far off from normal? [IMG] [IMG]

    Well!

    Mine is Economic Left/Right: 6.75
    Authoritarian/Libertarian: 6.26

This puts me in around the same area as Margaret Thatcher.

Yes, that sounds about right! Good Test.

    I was:

    Economic Left/Right: 8.00
    Authoritarian/Libertarian: 0.21

According to the chart, that puts me awfully close to my hero, Milton Friedman.

OK, Matt. Were you looking over my shoulder?

    Economic -2.25
    Authoritarian -1.64.

Does that make me a U.K. Liberal Democrat? I've always liked the LibDems.

I am a democratic socialist (Labour Party-UK and NDP-Canada). This chart puts me almost a centerist with social responsibility, which is about right.

Be afraid, Dr. Bob, very afraid....I would, in my power, provide you with some social security in old age, and medical care.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Ha! Ha! Ha! I'm the most reasonable person on this board, I'm the closest to the center. Nyah, Nyah, Nyah, Nyah, Nyah, Nyah (sung to the tune of the universal six note child's taunt) [IMG]

Of course, I don't have a clue whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. :( :D

    I was economic -0.75 and authoritarian/libertarian -4.92.

Actually, I'm glad that the link was posted as I've been interested in learning more about the Libertarian Party for a while but just hadn't really gotten around to it.
