    Actually, rsr, I voted Conservative at the last general election (!), mainly because where I live is a safe Conservative seat anyway but also because there wasn't much between the candidates except the Conservative chap was a Christian and gave all the right answers with regard to sanctity of life etc.

    But normally my instincts are with the Lib Dems, you're quite right! I just didn't like their candidate last time and my instincts were proved right because a few months later he was convicted of fraud :eek:

    NB - transatlantic translation - over here, liberal means centrist (or perhaps centre-left if you're talking about the Lib Dems), rather than the meaning it has in the States, which is more equivalent to our Socialist or Social Democrats (Old Labour). It is perhaps accurate to call Tony Blair's New Labour liberal/ centrist, from our point of view, as he's moved Labour quite a bit right-wards, similar to what I think Clinton did with the Democrats. All very confusing! :confused:

    The test is biased though. Many of the questions suffer from the fallacy of limited alternatives.

    Take the first one for example, even if globalization were inevitable there is no reason to say that business on any level benefits "humanity" or the "corporation." Humanity cannot be benefited if corporations are not successful. Likewise, corporations cannot benefit without a market. This question assumes a false dichotomy.

    Too many of the questions were too skewed to give an accurate rating. For instance, why not ask about enabling parents to choose a religious school of their liking and taking a tax credit for their willingness to alleviate a public expense during their children's careers? What could be more libertarian than this short of eliminating public education altogether?

    I still think the score is a function of how the questions were asked. There were many cases where the third, truly libertarian answer, was not an option.

    True, and there were several cases in which I disagreed or agreed with something, but only because of the way it was worded, not because of a fundamental disagreement. So those weren't strong agree- or disagreement, just your basic agree- and disagreements.

    why is so many so happy to be aligned with gandhi? he is mainly the liberal pet champion of the far left and gandhi is most certainly an enemy of the Cross.

    The economic number surprised me - as a Reagan Republican - I guess my supposed economic conservatism is tempered with some compassion.

    I agree with Scott on the wording of the questions. As with most polls - the way the questions are asked can skew the results of polls in any direction that the questionaire wants it to go.
