My favorite is the one I put in the 1st spot. The Christmas episode.

The one where the miserly department store owner is mean as can be, or so it seems. He softens and tries to get arrested...so he can come in and be part of Christmas with them.

But I blew it with my choices by not including when the hillbilly...I cant remember his name...keeps throwing rocks threw all the windows.

Of course, every episode could actually be up there, they were all so good.

I tend to think more in terms of favorite scenes or themes than in terms of favorite episodes, as in Opie's dilemmas about 'being one of the guys' or doing what he knows is right instead. Yeah, "Mr. McBeevee," not listed as an option, is one ep that I would call a favorite. It begins with Opie having an imaginary pony he talks about, and he makes a fool out of Barney for believing the pony is real. Then he starts talking about a new friend he has met, 'Mr. McBeevee,' who spends his days up in the trees, wears a shiny hat and a belt with all kind of jingling things, and he can blow smoke out of his ear. Andy assumes he is another of Opie's creations of imagination, until Opie brings home a hatchet he says Mr. M . gave him. If you don't know the conclusion, I won't spoil it.

One of my favorite scenes is in "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs!" when Barney has taken all the dogs which have shown up at the courthouse to a place out of town, because a state inspector is coming and they don't know where the dogs came from, but they don't want to leave. Then a storm brews up, Opie says he is worried about the dogs out in the open, and Barney tries to convince him there is no need to worry-- dogs are too low to the ground to be hit by lightning, and they "take care of their own." If they were giraffes, on the other hand (Barney continues), they would have been hit (by lightning) already. Barney ends up doing the opposite of what he intended and convinces himself to go and get the dogs back. That scene can be view from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0h7iJ_-D3U

My vote goes to the pickle episode, although there are many great ones. I also enjoy any of the ones where Otis makes an appearance.

My favorite is the one where Otis has to stay at Andy's home for a while. I think they needed the jail for some real crooks or something. Aunt Bea acts like a slave driver, giving Otis all kinds of jobs to do and tells him to "Git to it!" By the end of the episode, he's ready to do anything to get away from her and either go back to jail or quit drinking. It's hilarious!
