I don't think Craddock is anti-narrative preaching, but I simply meant to assert that he and some others have rightly argued that way too much simplification has been done with that sermonic form, and way too much misapplication of it has occured. Of course, I'd argue with where he goes and why he goes there (I believe he's too enthralled with the so called "New Homiletic"). Homiletically, I prefer the narrative approach of Griednaus, Larsen, and Goldsworthy.

    Tom:

I like MacArthur, but one of the reasons I prefer Piper (besides his awesome focus on the sovereignty of God. his non-dispensational preaching and his sincere and exhaustive preaching ) is that his sermons are not alliteraton points, but rather are flowing progressive meditations upon what the text says.

BTW, I do believe Alistair Begg is the best preacher in the English language.

Yes, I've read it. It is must reading for any Biblical preacher.

I agree with you about Alistair Begg. I think he is easily one of the best expositors alive today and history will show him to be one of the greatest of all time.

Have you read the revised edition of The Homiletical Plot? He addresses this somewhat.

    Josh,

I know I am taking this totally out of context, but I just couldn't resist the humorous irony in your statement. Somehow, knowing some of your beliefs, this doesn't surprise me one bit... :D ;)

That sound you just heard was Joseph hitting the nail on the head with a hammer, and quite squarely

    :D :D :D

I can not tell you how frustrated I have become with my Sr. Pastor. He puts his notes on a half sheet of paper and places them on a Bible about the same size. He never opens it just reads from his half sheet. It definantly sends the message to me that the Bible is not even worth opening and I am a Seminary student and fellow pastor. Imagine how others interpret this. It makes me glad that you feel a Bible should be present and open. I feel sad as well. :(

Mark, is the text from which your pastor is preaching read in worship?
