    Reading IIJohn
Now, I know he was speaking specifically about those who said Christ is not come into the flesh, but today we have those who hold very separate views.

So a Jehovah's Witness (or Latter Day Saint) comes to your door. JWs believe Jesus was only a man (which contradicts John 1:1 and 1:14 amid many other scriptures) and LDS (Their "Journal of Discourses" vol 6 says "Here, then, is eternal life-to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves" http://journals.mormonfundamentalism.org/Vol_06/refJDvol6-1.html )

I see viewing their websites (as I did above) to reveal their false doctrine in accordance with
However, going back to 2 John 1:10, You're not supposed to let them in, but how do you wrap up your conversation?

Goodbye is a contraction of "God Be with Ye" and around the 1700s (I probably have the date a bit off) people were saying "Goodbye ye" or "Goodbye to you".

"See you later" sounds like you intend to see them later... Do you just wave? [IMG]

    Ideas?

Gods word is great ant it!
The decievers (planos) are the Apostolic imposters who are trying to lead astray those who are true believers. They are the same false teachers in view of Johns first letter.
"Look to yourself" I believe means watchout we need to be carefull that we aren't decieved and walk away from the Lord the true Lord. Exspecially a new babe in Christ (as I believe many where) can be decieved. Can we loose are salvation no. But we can loose are rewards We see some walk away because they were never truely born again but some IMO are children of God and walk away. Of course the Lord will continue to work and convict those that are truely His. So I believe that this if taken in context is telling all of us exspecially young Christians to watchout maybe its best to give a real quick testimony and say good by. I'll talk with them on my pourch some times I don't let them in my house. And sometimes the Lord will lay on my heart to just tell them a quick testimony and say good by. So thats my openion there are alot more smarter Christians than me on this board who may not agree 100% but thats what I believe is the main message.

Have a nice day or Thank you for your time, but I am not interested in arguing with you about my Savior Jesus Christ. Depends on who is standing at my door.

I explain true salvation in Christ to them, not allowing them to butt in or argue. Then I quote the verse about not wishing them God-speed and ask them to repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

A quick way to get rid of them is to inform them that you do not believe their false and mythical doctrines and you especially do not believe in their false god. With that tell them the conversation is over and close the door.

I believe that unless you are a new Christian, you should try to talk to them. You just need to be sure to lead the conversation. Tell them you want to discuss who Christ is.

BTW, 2 Jn 1.10 is not about not letting them in your home. That verse was written when chruches met in homes and it means not to let a false teacher teach or preach to believers; that is why churches should not give a platform to false teachers for any reason. 2 Jn 1.10 does not mean you cannot let them in your home. However, I do only talk to them at the door, partly because I have loads of literature against cults in my home and if they saw that, they would discount anything I said. However, I once did invite 2 young Mormon women into my living room (this was already after having talked to them for a good 45 min. about 2 wks earlier). We had a 2 hour conversation on "Who is God?" I was able to make many points and present the gospel of the true Jesus Christ, not the Mormon Jesus.

The JW's who come here always ask me if there are any Spanish speaking people in the building (there are many Hispanics in these apts.) and I always politely tell them that I will not give them that info as I they do not have the truth.

There is no need to send them away or to be rude. But if you are going to speak with them, do it in love and only if you think they will see Christ in you.

You know I'm glade I didn't come in contact with half the people on this board, when I was lost. The lack of love and the pious attitude is discusting at times. The guy that led me to Christ didn't win me with a bunch of theological arguing I saw the love of Jesus Christ in his life and thats what I wanted and what was missing in my life.

I completely agree, Marcia. There is a lot of truth in the old adage, "You may be the only Bible some folks ever read." In Christ, WT ;)

In this day and age, I don't want strangers knocking at my door, unless it is a true emergency of some sort.
JW's, LDS's, salesmen, politicians or whatever else.
I do not believe that they have a right to intrude on us at home.
    I am polite, but direct.
    Can I help you ?
Pardon me, but I am not interested.
    Have a nice day.

Do you mind if I relate a little funny story. I was cleaning house on a Saturday morning. I had the stereo really cranked up because I was vacuuming. It was actually one of Glen Campbell's gospel albums. A little JW lady rang the front doorbell. I answered and we exchanged introductions. All the while, Glen was in the background singing "Show me your way!"

It was really difficult to hear and finally the lady just looked at me kind of funny and said: "Oh, never mind." and walked off.

Bob C, ITA! I've thought many times that I would NEVER recommend this site to an unsaved person! To paraphrase a question in another thread...what sends a "a person to hell?"...Christians!

"...receive him not into your house." I am mindful here that the early Church would meet in believer's houses. So, this could be that one is not to welcome them into the services and have the same standing in the services as believers.
Certainly they are not to be "guest speakers"!
You should not wish them "God speed" (IMHO), because they are not doing God's work, but have given "heed to seducing spirits and things taught by demons"
I whole-heartedly agree with Marcia that a new Christian should not engage a cultist; they are very well rehearsed ("programed" really) in their deception.

I sadly must agree with you.

People seem more interested in how to get rid of unbelievers coming to the door than letting God use them to witness. You will probably rarely see a Mormon or JW missionary at your door confess Christ, BUT you could plant a seed. Think about it.

You can always just answer the door in your boxers...or whatever. They seem to really want to move on then.

I will step out onto the porch or the steps and meet them Scripture for Scripture.

Funny, though...none of them have been back to my house for several years. Wonder why?

    In Christ,

Especially with Witnesses, if you ask to see their Bible and start showing them the scriptures that are in there that prove the diety of Christ, and really get them about 200 miles off the script, they usually scramble to get away.

I answered the door last year prepared for this, imagine my surprise when it was Baptist guys from another church in the area. I remembered a rather ugly incident from a church softball league involving their team. Makes for a tough sell.

This would have been one of my favorites, but you can't win friends and influence people by doing that! LOL!~

So, now I tell them to wait at the door, and go to get a study book (when I still had it) that is from one of their EX-Members. Usually when they saw the thing, they would politely try to leave their materials and try to excuse themselves. It's funny to see their reaction, but sad, too, because I know they are misled and will face God without Christ if what they teach is truly what they believe.

I live at home with my folkes and in our neighborhood we have it listed in the deed restrictions that we don't allow soliciting. So eventhough I'd love the chance to get to show them Christ for who He truly is, I think my dad would beat me to the door and shoo them off with threats that he'd call the constable's office. He btw is not a believer, and he really really does not like people coming door to door. Maybe I'll have to ask him if the mormans show up can I handle it and will see what he says. As stated here before it is false doctrine. They have cut the Bible up and when I asked about that I was told by a practicing member that the Bible has errors in it so the points in the Bible that do not agree with their books in the quad are said to be mistakes.

Seriously, is there a certain "script" for them to follow when going door to door? I have read that they go in teams of 2. One member being new and more reachable and the other member being there to keep the newbie on track.

Actually I used to meet with Jahova's witness's every once in a while. They are very kind and very Animate about what they believe.

But, I don't think most of thier doctrine is true. And if I were to meet one now, I would try and save them and bring them into the Baptist fold. I wouldn't turn them away I would step out on my porch and say Do you know what CHRIST did for you ?
