In my 8 years of pastoring MorningStar Fellowship, I only wore a suit and tie 2 times.

The lack of tie in no way hindered the Word of God from being preached.

(of course, I did not have tattoos all over my arms or neck to distract people's attention from the Word of God.)

People look at the outward, God looks at the heart. The man standing behind the pulpit should dress in a manner that does not cause attention to be on him when it should be on the Word of God.

I am very proud of the saints. They were with him until he came out with that crap. Then they all got silent and started looking around. All that was needed was an old lady saying, "Lord Help Him".

I believe when you choose to follow Christ you know longer have an opinion. We have the word of truth. If he does have gay friends he would be doing them a greater favor by telling them the wages of sin is death but God will give you a gift...

How true, which is why God can also use a Man with tattoos and piercing's. There are people in danger of living eternity in hell that might relate to that preacher.

Unfortunately his message was not the Word or view of God. I'm not really sure who he represents.

    Chapter and verse, please:
    • Where a tattoo or piercing makes one "liberal"
    • Where our clothing and position are linked.
    • What clothing would someone described in Philippians 2:5-11 wear?
Once again....no problem condemning the sin of homosexuality. But linking it with the tattoos or piercings...I don't see it.

True, people will look at the outside and be distracted.

Can you see the Word of God coming from him?

    One punk under God?

He is the son of the Bakkers. Jim "PTL" Bakker.

First, it doesn't matter what I can "see." God's word doesn't depend on our attractiveness. Read Isaiah...Emmanuel Himself had no form, that we should desire him...

Second, if I decide based on externals to determine someone's "worthiness" to bring forth the word of God, then I have meted out a measure that God will mete out upon me...one that I don't want and can't fulfill (Matthew 7).

Third, does it really matter whose son he is? God can use anyone, no matter their lineage.

    God looks on the heart.

Tattoos do not disqualify someone from ministry.

Unbiblical views on homosexuality, however, do pose a big problem.

He already discredited himself. He doesn't believe gay marriage is a sin.

I had a preacher who was tattooed before he was saved. He always wore long sleeves because he was ashamed of his choices before his conversion.

That shows his change of heart and spirit.

Can you see the Word of God coming out of this guy? He looks quite proper - neat hair, nice suit, handsome face.....

I am so glad we have The Scribe to judge and tell us who can teach God's word. I am sure a tatooed non-CHristian biker would listen to a middle-aged guy in a suit at a pulpit in a church he would never enter, than a tatooed street preacher, saved by the grace and commissioned to reach others.

If they look the part you have to listen to what they preach.

Bakker, Swaggart, Haggard, and the list goes on all looked the part, but in the end we know they weren't preaching sound doctrine.

You're missing the point. The "discrediting has nothing to do with the tattoos.

You are judging a man's worthiness to preach the Gospel by externals...and that is wrong.

And your preacher friend that covered his arms....if the tats were sin...weren't they already "covered by the blood?" Sounds like an unhealthy view to me....

It just goes to show that the outward appearance has NOTHING to do with what is in their soul. I know men who have tattoos who came to the Lord later in life - and are so on fire for God. Yep, they look a little scary with all that stuff on their arms, backs and legs but they'd give you their right arm, give you the coat off their back and walk miles to help anyone. They are wonderful men of God.

I learned a long time ago to not judge someone by their looks. God knows their heart - and I want to learn of it. I'll give them all a chance and THEN judge them when I've heard their heart.

He's unworthy to preach since he is preaching his own doctrine, that gay marriage is okay.

His tattoos wouldn't discredited him if he had truly changed. He's trying to modernize the Bible and that's wrong.

Yes, his sins were covered once he was saved. It's not an unhealthy view.

I agree with you that this kind of screws up the ministry thing for him...but that's doctrinal, not dermatological.

Note the clever Baptist use of aliteration.

So you are saying that a man who claims to be saved who had tattoos of naked women prior to his conversion should not be ashamed of them? should not cover them up so as not to make another stumble? should not see about getting them removed?

Oh, please. You've moved from a non-issue (a tattoo of an eagle) to an issue (nudity/pornography). Red herring, and you know it.

    We know his heart.

    Matthew 15:11 (KJV)
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

but that has nothing to do with his tattoos.
