A dog I'd LOVE to get (that's also hyperallergenic) is a Portuguese Water Dog but now that the president has one, they're way out of my price range. But they have a personality like a lab/retriever but without the allergies. My hubby is highly allergic too and it triggers his asthma so it's not a good thing for him. So we have a bunny and a fish. That's it. All my life I had a dog and I'm down to a bunny and a fish. :(

I give my dogs Christmas presents (bones, a toy, etc). This serves three purposes. First it keeps them busy while everyone is opening gifts (etc). Second it makes for some good pictures. Third it is fun for them and me.

I think my dogs are Jewish. They claim Jesus didn't die for them.

Great. Now I gotta get them EIGHT presents, of just one.

Sorry - impossible. The Gentiles are the dogs, remember?

If my pet ever gives me a present (I mean a desirable one), then I will begin to give him one every year...

    That's HOGWASH!

    The nose gives it away.

    That was pretty funny, though...

We recently watched the first few episodes of ALF from Netflix. The kids loved it! When I told them I watched it as a kid they couldn't believe it. I guess they thought we didn't have television back in the 1980's.

    Here Kitty, Kitty. . . .

Last year, I bought my cat balls with bells inside them. They are his favorite toys. This year, he's getting a set of five different cat treats.

Yes, We Do! And, So Can You!

How could you not buy your family pet something special at Christmas. God made us animals to keep us company, and a present is appropriate.

What I've found with my pets is worth posting: The older my kids were the more visual disappointment they showed with our gifts to them. HOWEVER, no matter what we give the dogs and cats, we still feel their appreciation and gratitude. We even buy our friends pets little trinkets. That way they remember us, and love seeing us come to visit their pet parents!

Great question Rev. Try it with your pets, or the pets of your friends. Just a box of dog biscuits, or cat treats will make you feel like you are loved by the animal kingdom. :wavey:

I could see giving an animal a gift if they could understand it. But they don't.

They do. Oh yes they do. I remember the first Christmas we had our little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cassie. She looked at the Christmas tree with all the gifts under it and then sat in front of it and looked at us and looked behind her. She then very gently went all over the parcels sniffing them.

I hastily went into the kitchen and wrapped up some of her dog biscuits and placed them under the tree and she was happy with that but each year following there were gifts for Cassie under the tree.
We now have a little poodle, Leo. He knows exactly what presents are and thoroughly enjoys opening his gifts at Christmas. I only wish I knew how to post the pics of him doing so. Leo also loves to get post and knows which Christmas card has his name on it!! Like little children he loves playing with the wrapping paper too!

We need to remember the animal shelters at this time of year. A lot of animals have been abandoned and the shelters are having a hard time affording the food to feed their charges. Some supermarkets have carts or boxes at the exits for donations of pet food. :)

Excellent idea. Our shelters also accept old towels, sheets, and blankets to provide bedding for the animals.
