    Private Messages
The administrators of this message board permit members to send private messages to each other. A private message is not email. Private messages are one-to-one communications that can only be read by the recipient. You can read private messages in your profile section. You can also elect to be notified by email whenever someone sends you a private message (you can set this in your profile). You can also prevent anyone from sending you a private message (also configurable in your profile). Only registered members may send private messages. This option can be disabled by the board administrators.

To send someone a private message, look for the private message icon on a post a person creates. You can send a private message through the person's member profile, or from your Buddy List, if you have added the person to your Buddy List.

    Ignore Lists
Ignore lists apply to private messages only. Anyone you add to your ignore list can no longer send you a private message. You can put someone on your ignore list by viewing the member's profile and clicking on the "add to ignore list" link. Private messaging must be enabled on this site in order to use buddy lists.

    Buddy Lists
Buddy lists apply to private messages only. Anyone you add to your buddy list is stored in handy location, so that you can easily send the person a private message. You can put someone on your ignore list by viewing the member's profile and clicking on the "add to ignore list" link. Private messaging must be enabled on this site in order to use buddy lists.

Do you use this feature? If so, how often?

    Your answers are appreciated.

I have used it twice, but I never got a response from one of them. I personally like the feature, but wish there was a way to see if you had a private message without being emailed or going to "my profile". I had a private message that I found by accident because I didn't know the feature even existed. [IMG]

I like them, personally. They provide a way for BB members to get in touch with one another without having to give your private email out if you are concerned with security. I would probably forget to check them if they weren't sent to my email address, though.

I like them very much. They're slightly less personal than e-mails, so you don't feel like an intruder if you use it, especially if you want to say something to someone you don't know that well but don't want to put it on the board.

I check my profile daily to see/answer these and have gotten many.

I check my email 10 times a day as I receive hundreds (and mail thousands) daily.

I would prefer folks just use regular email to me. It won't be overlooked.

But only if you're sending something nice.

Same here, Gina, as well as a lot of us just are not that comfortable having our email address public. Some things we want to discuss in private, though, instead of on the whole board in view of some multiple of 1500 people.

I guess I only got one private message, and then I couldn't figure out how to open it. I actually accidentally deleted it before I could read it...

I guess since I don't get many messages there, it isn't that big of a deal to me. I would just as well get email at that point.

Just click on "my profile" and you'll see all the PMs.

Now, I have gotten two or three messages there... I don't mind using my email, though.

I am a non-comformist. I prefer AM versus PM. Most of you folks are night people right (PM), well, I am a morning person (AM)! ;) But I don't mind the PM folks, been there, done that, comes handy at times! [IMG]

I've never used the ignore or buddy lists, but I have used the private messages. And I like it that when I received a response, I was notified thru my regular e-mail account, but I could also read the private message in the e-mail. Did I make that clear? In other words I could read the private message in the email notification I was sent.
    Better? ;)
And it wouldn't bother me a bit to have my regular e-mail with anyone here on this board, considering all the junk mail I get from web sites that want me to buy stuff from them. [IMG]

I had to disable my PM feature since I was getting harassing and vulgar ones from KJV only folks. I have not turned them back on since I prefer emails. I may experiment with them back on though.

It should be the other way around [IMG]

People who do not want to disclose their emails could use PM to communicate with other BB members. This ensures that you ONLY receive messages from BB members.

Naturally, if someone abuses the PM feature, the priviledge can be taken away by moderators.

I use it some what. I do like the feature and would not change it.

    God speed.
