After a computer shop "salvaged" my PC after getting a virus that my anti virus couldn't contain or delete, some quirky things happen. One of which is whenever I boot up, my laptop's screen goes black for about a second or two just before all the icons load.

    Any thoughts?

I'll do these one at a time.

Updating your drivers would be a good first step.

Sorry to say it, but you probably spent money that you didn't have to spend. There are some guys on the tech forum I help admin who could have got you through it (most likely).

If you are running XP, you can also try a repair installation. I don't think Vista has that option.

If you are running Vista that is rather normal on most laptops. If it did not do it before try updating the video drivers. If that doesn't work try going to older video drivers.

If yoiu don't have vista ignore the rhetoric and go back to your coffee

I believe the drivers were updated but I'll give that one a try.

Probably right...I probably wasted money. But it was a friend, and I worked through HS in the computer shop he ran. At one time I was a super computer geek. I have regretted not finishing an Info Systems degree. Silly me..following God's call to Bible College/Seminary and now doing an MBA for fun and bivo ministry

Okay...tried to update the drivers but I got a message saying the driver already on my laptop is newer than what's on the CDROM that came with the laptop. I'm considering rolling back to the one on the CD ROM. Thoughts?
