Should the Bible be sold out of "Christian" bookstores? How about "Christian Music"? If it contains the message of truth...in any form or fashion, should it be sold...or for that matter-even bought by believers. There is a higher standard. It seems that only a few have embraced it. Paul said no one would steal his boast...that he provided the “gospel at no charge”.

Let me say this...I am a believer in the Lord Jesus I find it appalling that the hucksters who have come in the name of Christ, are peddling the word.

I agree and disagree with you on this. It isn't realistic for someone to give me Christian literature for nothing and have to pocket a loss. What does disturb me is the obscene profits the publishers, manufacturers, and store owners make on some of these products. What is even worse is some of the products they sell in a Christian bookstore and call them Christian.

What is sold in a christian bookstore that isn't christian?

Whats the difference between paying for christian items and gospel items and paying the Pastor a salary? Fact is the people who distribute the bibles and such still have costs to cover too in creating the product.

The "Christian" bookstore in my town is extremely ecumenical. It has a whole section that caters to the terrible Satanic religion of Roman Catholicism.

Take that to the "other religions" forum. I'm betting you'll get sqaushed. Catholicism is not any more satanic than you or me are. We are all human and none of us hold perfect doctrines.

Dear CA,

Under the Law the Levitical priesthood had no inheritance and depended upon the general population for their livelyhood. This is both sanctioned and even commanded in the Torah.

So, it would seem that the general principle is that those involved in the promotion of the Kingdom of God on earth are allowed to draw their sustenance from it.

Not a whole lot in life is free, but sometimes it comes cheap .. .

If you know someone without a Bible, give them one of yours. .. . Or buy one for them.

If you see someone needing Christian music, give them one of your tapes.. . . you will be blessed beyond measure.

If you see someone without a coat, give them one of yours.

There is a cost to everything. .. but sometimes what you reap pays for it. . . .

Josh,

A BIG AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To add to that, there is the following...

1. Gwen Shamblin's Weigh Down propaganda
2. Charasmatic literature from the likes of Benny Hinn and Kenneth and Gloria Copeland
3. All of Bob Larson's books

I agree on the "Left Behind" series. The entire section in Christian Bookstores labeled "Christian Fiction" should be tossed! The term is an oxymoron!

Another thing that irks me in them is all the cute little angel paraphernalia. These cute icons are completely contrary to biblical evidence of angels. In the Bible, angels were ALWAYS male, and they were terrifying, not cute. I don’t mean terrifying as in ugly or grotesque, but they greatly agitated the people who encountered them. I’m not stating a case that there are no female angels. It’s just that the Bible is silent on them.

Just to back you up brother Wells, every time a person encounters an angel in the Bible, the angel greets them with "do not be afraid..." So that tells you that they are quite a sight to behold! The angels at the tomb caused Roman soldiers to faint!

Angeology is very prevalant is Christian bookstores. We have Touched by an Angel to thank for that. Gal. 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Dad gum it John...we agree on something! The first words out of an angel's mouth are always, "Do not be afraid." I think that's our first clue that you wouldn't want to run into one in a dark alley.

I think most people's facination with angels come from an unwillingness to pursue a personal relationship with God. The angels seem more accessible and more human to them.

Joshua

oops...Kathy and I were apparently thinking along the same lines :D

Lu 6:38
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure,
pressed down, and shaken together, and running
over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the
same measure that ye mete withal it shall be
measured to you again.
Key word here being GIVE, not sell.

Obviosly angels are not so accesible if everytime one is seen there is fear! The media and Hollywood have stirred up, or I should say conjured up images of angels, ready to wisk you away to heaven, no matter what your spiritual state or your personal relationship with Christ is.

It all seems so nice, but it is another gospel, and that's why it sells. Christians should know better, but sadly, biblical discernment is extrememly lacking in our churches, and doctrine is not preached even in our most "fundamental" churches.

Your assessment of the condition of "the church" is a little too pessimistic. The pastors and churches that hold to sound doctrine are in the minority for sure, and always have been, but by no means near extinction.

John, you said,

quote:
In the Bible, angels were ALWAYS male...I'm not stating a case that there are no female angels. It's just that the Bible is silent on them.

Which is it? When you say that "In the bible, angels are ALWAYS male", you ARE making a case.

Which is it? If the Bible is silent, then how do you know that angels in the Bible were always male?

Oh my gosh!!!!

Did ever occur to anyone that the reason the angels told anyone do not fear is that they were common people who to see any spiritual being would be freaked out of thier minds? Does this mean they were scary to look at? NOT!!!! I believe Angels are protecting and that God does use them for his glory, so what is wrong with those who collect angel figurines? Is there a problem with this as long as one is not worshiping the statue I see no big problem with it.

I still say christian ministries have costs and overhead and employees and bills so there is no reason they should not charge for these items.

I don't have a problem with the majority of the
"angel" stuff but I'm a little uncomfortable about some of the little trinkets like the piggy bank that says "Jesus Saves" and that sort of thing.

To me, that's the stuff that crosses the line.
