Question about Revelation 8: 10 What is wormwood?

10The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— 11the name of the star is Wormwood.[a] A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.

Nasa has made a discovery of a so called Planet X behind the sun and many believe it has to do with end time prophecy?????

Ok, not so weird I guess. Check out Matthew Henry:

The third angel sounded, and the alarm had the like effects as before: There fell a great star from heaven, &c., v. 10. Some take this to be a political star, some eminent governor, and they apply it to Augustulus, who was forced to resign the empire to Odoacer, in the year 480. Others take it to be an ecclesiastical star, some eminent person in the church, compared to a burning lamp, and they fix it upon Pelagius, who proved about this time a falling star, and greatly corrupted the churches of Christ. Observe, 1. Where this star fell: Upon a third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters. 2. What effect it had upon them; it turned those springs and streams into wormwood, made them very bitter, that men were poisoned by them; either the laws, which are springs of civil liberty, and property, and safety, were poisoned by arbitrary power, or the doctrines of the gospel, the springs of spiritual life, refreshment, and vigour to the souls of men, were so corrupted and embittered by a mixture of dangerous errors that the souls of men found their ruin where they sought for their refreshment.

It is interesting that the word "Chernoble" is translated as "wormwood".

Wormwood was an herb remedy that used to be used to get rid of internal parasites, sometimes still is in animals. It has a strong, bitter taste. Another name for it is Mugwort. At one time it was considered a sacred herb given by the god Woden. It can aslo be found in vermouth. Romans used it sometimes to soothe tired feet.

Pure wormwood is highly poisonous and an halluciogen, which is probably what is being described in this passage.

    Re Womwood

The Creator of the universe can use His creation any way he chooses. The passege youre referring to is not sp[eaking of an hallusonogenic drug but a "star" this could be an angel OR a literal star. For further insights of stars as angels you may try reading c.s. LEWIS' screwtape letters ---for insights as to how God can use His creation for His own purposes try IMMANUEL VELIKOVSKY "worlds in collision " This last book is by a secular writer that has a lot of insights most Christians can only dream of. He was a major influence in convincing Einstein to become a Theist .
