I am currently baptist but not Baptist so will post here.

I read on one of the threads on the Baptist only section where someone referred to McArthur as a dispensationalist. I thought he was calvinist. Did I miss something?

Most of the Calvinists (that are Baptists) that I know are dispensationalists.

You are correct. I agree with his eschatology, and not his soteriology.

Yes, he is both. Calvinist in Soteriology, dispensationalist in eschatology.

    He's both. That's a fact.

But most in the Reformed tradition are Amillennialists.

Thanks! Yes, most (not all!) Baptist Calvinists I have met are pre mil. Not the same as dispensationalist--at least, not the same as those I know who identify as dispensationalist. But they do seem to be kinfolk theologies to each other.

I have to say most I know who identify as dispensationalist are not calvinist.

    Starting to confuse even myself!

Two other well known dispensationalist who are Calvinist: Lewis Sperry Chaffer and Henry Morris.

I think the real friction lies between Covenant Theology and Dispensationalist Theology. It depends on how the Scriptures are handled. Both can be Calvinist.
