Has anyone ever seen an estimation of the total number of Christians who have been murdered by RCC adherents or under the authority of the RCC, since the time of the Reformation?

I'm also interested in knowing how the numbers would compare to other sects (for example; have more Christians died at RCC hands or Muslim hands
    ?).

    Monergist,

I'm sorry, but for the ignorant among us [holding hand up], what the heck is RCC?

Edited to guess: Roman Catholic Church?

For the sake of argument, let's keep this "fair and balanced" as Bill O'Riley of the "O'Riley factor would say and include the persecution of "RCC" adherants by Protestants where "Protestantism" gained a stronghold? Also, WHO did the punishing......the Church OR the state in carrying out the sentences? Keep in mind please that (although not right by this writer's estimation), that if you were a traitor to your "church", you were a traitor to your "state" since there was NO separation between the two. - God bless! - Meercat

My mother used to say "6 to 1, half-a-dozen to the other!" Plenty of sin on both sides, it seems to me. There was Cranmer, of course, but then there was Thomas More.

Probably Communism and Islam would rival for first place. Islam was founded by the sword (though some deny this) and continues to be spread by the sword to this very day, wiping out whole populations. [IMG]

We think of the Roman Empire's persecution of Christians as especially brutal. But estimates (no source available) say that about 20,000 christians died at the hands of the pagan empire.

200,000 christians died at the hands of other christians during the Reformation.

What did Pogo say? "We have met the enemy, and they is us".

Both sides are guilty. How about the horrid persecution of Catholics in Ireland by Protestant England - terrible stuff.

Oliver Cromwell to Catholics as they were evicted from their own lands when they asked where they were to go - "To hell or to Connacht (an especially barren, desolate, harsh section of the island).
