This list is the top 25 Inspirational songs for 2001 as determined by airplay on reporting radio stations. Other formats (AC, Southern Gospel, CHR) are not necessarily a part of this list.

Brutal honesty, folks, but I do not know a single song on that list. And only 2 of the singers/groups.

What in the world is this generation of Christians listening to?

And why the defection from the strong doctrinal hymns and spiritual songs of just a generation ago?

I think we are seeing a defection from a generation ago, because this is NOT a generation ago. Most of the songs listed are quite strong in their doctrine. Some of them (i.e. "Above All") may likely prove to be some of the great songs of the faith from this generation. That particular song was sung at the presidential inagural prayer service.

"The Word", by Sara Groves goes through some powerful scriptures, with a chorus "The Word is, The Word Was and The Word will Be..."

"Press On" by Selah (which I believe IS a song from a couple decades ago) - "In Jesus Name... We Find the Strength to Press On".

This generation is listening to this generations music, I don't know that we can expect anything more. [IMG]

Why I like many of the groups on there and I am not anti CCM ...one group that I would definitely warn you about is Phillips Craig & Dean . They are Oneness Pentecostals (a dangerous cult and hersey). That the CCM industry has embraced and promoted Phillips Craig & Dean is further proof that the Christian Music industry is about $$$ and very little now days about the Gospel.

Here is the link to the CCM top 50 of 2001

    CCM top 50

Bear in mind, the first "C" in "CCM" stands for contemporary, so these are definately Genre specific. [IMG]

I am sure there are a lot of other religious formats missing.

Kiffen, I STRONGLY disagree with you about what you said about Phillips, Craig & Dean. They are one of the most quality Christian groups in Christian music today. I am quite familiar with their music, and as a Baptist, I have not found one doctrinal point I disagree on, much less find "dangerous or cultic" in any of their songs. If you call yourself a Baptist, and think PCD's music is doctrinally wrong, you obviously haven't heard much of their music. Get the facts before you go accusing groups of being dangerous.

What facts do you have about them cuffy7 to back your points? Also, you seem to be angry writing these posts. We try to keep a charitable atmosphere here at the BB. Just something to remember in the future. Thanks!

    Cuffy,

I never said their music (that I know of) contains false doctrine but it is FACT that Philips,Craig and Dean belong to a Oneness Cult that denies the Trinity. They are heretics but since they want the money of mainstream radio listers I doubt you will here blatant heresy in their songs (But who knows?).

They are a dangerous group since the CCM industry thinks the Trinity is a minor doctrine and other people may be lured into their cult. Will CCM play Jehovah Witness, Mormons next if they keep their songs non offensive enough? Probably since money is the bottom line with the "Christian" music industry nowadays and not Biblical orthodoxy.

Guess that's one of the reasons I'm glad I'm an Episcopalian! But I do think we need to differentiate between your typical CCM song and hymns -contemporary or not- we sing on Sunday morning. Most churches simply do not have the musical talent to play most of CCM songs we hear on the radio. Most contemporary Sunday morning worship songs are easy to play and sing...which is good, and bad. I must say, that in the above list, I've only heard "Above all" by Michael W. Smith, and it is a beautiful song. Heartfelt. Powerful.

Where do they dream up these polls?
Amazing Grace has to have been in the top ten for 100 years...

It's all about CD sales and not about fact.
