I find that reading often brings an idea before me that forces me to pause and reflect or mull it over. Also often reading will surprisingly add to a subject, bring a bit of light to a subject that has been gray, if not black in my understanding.

The following quote has done both:

Brings to mind an episode in the classic science fiction book Dune where the Reverend Mother tested Paul Atreides with a nerve induction box that produced extreme pain without physical damage. Only a self-conscience human could have the discipline to withstand this pain and resist the urge to take their hand out of the box.
Anyone that withdrew their hand prematurely were considered subhuman animals and killed with the gom jabbar.

As children of God we have the assurance that we are beloved children of our Creator and will live beyond the great void of death.
