Thoughts. Are they the "birth pangs" foretold, or just pure coincidence?

I think it is just a natural cycle in the earth. Though I hesitate and mention that I don't speak for God or His will in this area.

We'll all be dead and in the ground long before Christ returns. I am expectant but not unrealistic.

Its why I've got a retirement account. ;)

How could we not understand that they are birth pangs foretold. The earth has been corrupted by sin and it continues to decline. We have no idea where we will be when Christ returns or any level of how soon it will be.

Jesus is Risen! And he's coming Back!

Thats exciting enough. Now whether these things are what was mention in Matthew as birth pains? I don't really understand what the passage means in relation to time. Must these things always be as signs of his coming or is there an indicator by them how quickly he comes? I don't know. Though I understand that the earth has gone through many cycles. Maybe we are just experiencing another cycle.

I don't mean to sound cute or petty, but is anything coincidence with God?

I agree with Rev.; it's the groanings of a broken planet plagued with sin and in line with what Christ taught us concerning His return !

I agree on the first part, not on the second. The point of Christ using the birth pang analogy is the fact we WILL know his return is soon, just like when real birth pangs increase in frequency the baby will arrive soon.

I meant coincidence to us...not God.

Are earthquakes a result of sin...I'm not sure. The death and destruction resulting from one surely is, but stating this would be the same as stating a thunderstorm is the result of sin.

I understand your reason for your position but define "soon". The point of the signs given was to be a reminder of His return not to set dates or time spans.

Not sure, but if we keep on having 7.0 and higher earthquakes with such frequency, and they keep coming closer and closer, like in birth it would mean very soon. I somehow think we will know having the Holy Spirit within. My curiosity is up, and I know many Christians are curious and excited as well.

I agree but I personally have no reason to believe it could either get much worse beyond our imagining or subside to a lower level of frequency for a time.

    Short answer...yes.

Jesus predicted it. It's happening. How could we see it any other way?

I take it that you don't see the increase in earthquakes, disease, rampant Sodom & Gomorrah type sins, apostasy......as birth pangs?

Can it be both prophecy and coincidence? The reason I use coincidence, btw, is because the "experts" aka the anti-God Darwinian scientists claim it's just coincidence. I don't recall in the past these taking place so severely so close together.

It's the result of living in a fallen world. As far as the timing of Jesus' return, we don't know. His one and only Second Coming could be now or in two billion years.

I don't believe there any coincidences with God. Could it be just part of the earth's cycles? Possibly. But Jesus gave us the signs for a reason. I don't think it's wise to ignore them.

Isn't that what the Jews did? When Jesus came, they didn't know Him because they ignored all the scriptures that spoke of Him.

It's funny...in your first paragraph you say you don't speak for God. Yet, in the second paragraph, you attempt to do just that. Who are you to say when Christ will or will not return?

Doesn't it say there will be scoffers in the last day? So, people who are claiming that he is coming soon are scoffed at by those who don't believe?

    Yes.

2 Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2 Peter 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

I agree there is no coincidence with God, but do to the natural earth cycles, these recent earthquakes can be coincidence to us, can they not?

I've been meditating on Christ's return lately, and when one thinks that just a hundred years ago or so man still rode horses, the explosion in technology these past 50 years, these global catastrophies, the current world economy, the acceptance of homosexuality (Sodom and Gomorrah), I cannot help but wonder if these truly are the "end of days" we are all hoping and praying for!
