    Just because we are Christians does not make us perfect, in fact the devil is going to be after us all the more because we are God's child. Are we going to fall? You bet we are.

    Ever heard the saying "the devil made me do it" Well he does. We sometimes become weak and vunerable for whatever reason and when we do that's when satan attacks.
    --------------------------------------------------

    Romans 6 teaches that we have been set FREE from SIN. NOT FREE TO SIN. We have been given power over our SIN. We have no excuse when we sin.

    19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
    20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
    21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

    This passage means that believers who do these things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Practice is a nice fuzzy word because it can mean what you say it means, habitually or continually commit some act, but it also means exactly what is said here in the KJV, which is do. If you do something, you practice it. Therefore if you do these things, you practice them. Now if you repent and don't do them anymore, you don't practice them anymore either, kinda wierd how that works. But the instant you do it again, well now you are practicing sin again.

    Repenting of disbelief? Yes absolutely that must occur to be saved. If you don't believe, you are disobeying the simple first command to believe and you need to repent of that to be born again. Repenting of all your sins is something that may happen at the moment of salvation, or it may come later, or it may never come. It doesn't change the fact that Jesus died to cover them.

    If you are created a new creature, then you have been saved. But you are commanded to put off the old man and put on the new man. This command would be meaningless if this is an automatic process that occurs when you believe.
    Ephesians 4
    22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
    23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
    24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
    A few verses further, we can confirm that this command is to believers...
    30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
    31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
    32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

    KJ Newman, two very good concepts (at least) have been presented on this board to refute your interpretation of the story of the rich young ruler. They are: If the ruler was saved, why did Jesus say to him "one thing thou lackest?" If the ruler was saved, why did he go away sorrowful? I don't think you have answered this. A reasonable answer to these two would go a long way to convincing others of your positon.

    14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
    15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
    16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
    17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
    18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
    19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

    Hebrews 12:11
    Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

    Jesus wanted this man hot or cold.

    Actually verses 17-19 are referring to those who are not yet saved, as they are poor, naked and blind and cannot yet see. Jesus requires them to buy of him gold tried in the fire (this is believing in the cross(fire) of Jesus Christ (gold) being spoken of) and to repent. Jesus also says he will spew them out of his mouth. Jesus tells the believer, that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. There seems to be a contradiction if you believe both being spoken of are saved. We know that God does not contradict himself, and this must only being speaking of those with head knowledge only, who are not yet saved and born again of the Spirit.

    Love in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour,

    Are you sure it isn't written to Jews in the tribulation? Or maybe GW Bush?

    James Newman belongs to a highly questionable extremist sect that teaches that there are two salvations and two justifications. According to his grossly unbiblical doctrines,

    No one has to repent to qualify for the first salvation—all one needs to do is “believe” (more or less) that Jesus died for our sins. However, to qualify for the second salvation, you DO need to repent and you DO need to produce good works. Your “faith” justifies you before God; your works justify you before men. But all that is necessary to be “saved for eternity” is intellectual assent to the teaching that Jesus died for our sins. However, anyone who has only this salvation will spend one thousand years in hell while the repentant Christians with the second salvation will spend one thousand years in the kingdom of God.

    In my personal opinion, these doctrines of James Newman are no less in error, and no less dangerous, than any of the doctrines of the Jehovah’s Witnesses or the Mormons. :eek: :eek:

    Well, seeing that they are both not yet saved, yes, it could very well be. The point, is that they are not yet saved.

    Your works justify you before men?

    Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

    That was to the pharisees.

    Matthew 5
    19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
    20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

    This is to believers.

    But you are almost right about what I believe. I guess that shows that at least you have been reading what I post, even if you don't comprehend it well. But it doesn't have a whole lot to do with the topic of this thread.

    Now obviously you believe a Christian must repent to be saved. You believe a Christian can lose his salvation. Some would consider that to be a little extremist. Perhaps your personal opinion would carry more weight if it had some scripture behind it.

    John 6
    39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
    40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

    Perhaps you could explain why what I believe is dangerous, instead of just throwing out the names of some cults to make it sound like I believe what these cults believe. Maybe you could show us why what these cults believe is dangerous as well.

    Mr., Dr., King Newman,

    I did not just throw out the names of some cults to make it sound like you believe what these cults believe! Indeed, compared to what you believe, the views of these damnable cults are rather tame. Christians go to hell for 1,000 years! Where in the Book of Mormon do you find anything even remotely that outrageous? Where in the writings of the Watch Tower Society do you find anything so ridiculously preposterous? I have very many volumes of the writings by the Watch Tower Society, and in none of them do I find such a gross perversion of the word of God!

    Then why did you throw out the names of these cults? You are now insinuating that I get doctrine from the watch tower society? I could say that Hitler believed in conditional security, but unless I backed it up with a reference or something, it wouldn't mean a whole lot. As my dear brother Lacy would say,
    BOOM!

    but where's the splash?

    Care to prove that President Bush isn't saved, Michelle. This is merely your opinion, developed by the twisting of Scripture.

    --------------------------------------------------

    This passage is intended to show us that our own righteousness will not get us into heaven. Only the righteousness of Christ will be excepted. As I said before God Demands perfection and when a person is saved God inputes the righteousness of Christ in us. Jesus Christ fullfilled the Law in every way. And just to let everyone know, In the sight of God I am perfect because when God looks at me he does'nt see me but he sees the righteousness of Christ.

    In the passage above the least in the Kingdom will be judged and cast out.

    Matt 13:30

    Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn."

    Matt 13:41-42

    The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth

    Matt 13:49-50

    So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth."

    And Great in the Kingdom will be rewarded [those who have the righteousness of Christ]

    Matt 13:43

    Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

    I have already posted that that the doctrines of millennial exclusion and punishment in hell for Christians come from the very depths of hell. My point is that these doctrines are further from the teaching of the Bible than any doctrine taught by either the Mormons or the Jehovah's Witnesses, and that they should be dealt with accordingly. When Lacy has nothing to reply to this fact he says, "Boom, Boob," in an apparent attempt to demonstrate that he believes that he is Bam Bam of the Fred Flintstone cartoon series :D . Your posts are reminiscent of a man in the midst of an identity crisis (Mr., Dr., King Newman, Messiah?), and I do not believe that your appeal to the theology of Adolph Hitler is much of a help to your argument [IMG] .

    Is repentance really necessary for salvation? Yes!

    Matt. 4:17. From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

    Luke 13
    Call to Repent
    1. Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.
    2. And Jesus said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were greater sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered this fate?
    3. "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
    4. "Or do you suppose that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse culprits than all the men who live in Jerusalem?
    5. "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."
    6. And He began telling this parable: "A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any.
    7. "And he said to the vineyard-keeper, 'Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree without finding any. Cut it down! Why does it even use up the ground?'
    8. "And he answered and said to him, 'Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer;
    9. and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.' "

    John 8:36. "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

    Acts 2:37. Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"
    38. Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
    39. "For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself."
    40. And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation!"
    41. So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
    42. They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
    43. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.

    Acts 3:9. "Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

    As to my name change, I thought to do it as a joke, and then thought differently, but only found out after I had clicked apply that the BB's forum software is poorly designed and I can't change it back to James Newman. I didn't realize this until after I had posted with the name Dr James Newman (having thought the change back to my original name took place). So then I changed it to King James Newman, not trying to imply that I had yet attained, but we are called to be kings and priests, I can aspire, can I not? I tried to change it to Plain James Newman and found my profile locked. If anyone can put it back to it's original, great. If not, I'll leave it like it is. I don't really care what you guys call me, if you want to continue to call me Mr. Dr. King, I'll answer just the same. [IMG]

    That would be interesting, but from what I have seen on this forum there are few people who are genuinely interested in learning. Perhaps you are an exception. I'm guilty as well. My words to you were too harsh. Please forgive me.

    I suggest that you sit down with your pastor and ask him to show you basic hermeneutic principles and apply them to a specific passage - the rich young ruler for example. I was serious when I said that I have never read a single theologian, expositor, or Bible scholar claim the rich young ruler was saved. The interesting thing, at least from my perspective, is that your view is strengthened with the conclusion that he wasn't saved. Perhaps I have been mistaken all along!?
