It is amazing how defensive people get when you try to say that they didn't get saved on anything that they have done.

    Southern,
I am sure you already know this but the problem is that when you post something like this you are attacking their righteous "attribute" that they like so much to hold on to. You are saying that these people have no faith of their own, that as the Bible says, their faith is a gift of God and it says that but for the Grace of God, they would be just like any soul in hell.
You are stepping on their pride..it isn't an intellectual argument. You are't dealing with a topic where it is just a matter of finding the truth...you are undermining their foundation of goodness with in themselves.
Man so desperately wants to hold on to something good that he must do in order to find grace in the sight of God and when someone comes along and says that without the God, and his grace...there is no rightouesness imputed unto man...remember it says that it was "counted unto him for faith" it doesn't say Moses etc HAD faith of their own...it was counted unto them for faith.

THere is no way around it, you are attacking the person that believes the doctrine that he must believe of his own will and goodness.

It is very hard to have a friendly discusion on this topic.
