Does your church still hold revival services?

Every service should be a revival service.

Some of our church leadership still goes by the old ways that spring and fall revivals are a must. They like to be fussed at and scolded. There are tears at the altar but no lasting changes are made. That is jsut a small portion of our church, but I do think the majority of the folks expect a revival because its the way we have always done it.

It usually wears us out rather than refreshing us. (And speaking as the pastors family, it really does take a toll on the family that week, with all the eating and stuff that is part of the revival culture here)

    Nope...
I have been thinking about having a series of services.. .but to call it "revival" is sacreligious if it is really not...

Let's call it what it really is...

"A week of fellowshipping while getting our toes stomped on and hoping some poor lost soul will stumble in to see how holy we are while patting ourselves on the back next week for having a good revival meeting!"

I may have a visiting preacher come in for a series of sermons.. but I will not call it revival...

Revival comes from God.. not the church board just because they are bored!

My church does not, but the association holds them in the spring and/or fall.
They are held 10:00 a.m. to about 12 M-F for one week and are targeted towards senior adults.

Might be telling my age, but how many churches in your town were started by a preacher having a tent revival? I have seen many. Someone said every service should be a revival service and I agree with that to a point. Someone else said and hope the lost stumble in, we should bring them in. For the most part we don't live to where the lost wants what we have, so why do they want to come in?

Do I think the saved need to have revival so they will go out and reach the lost , live so the lost will want what is in us, yes. We need to keep in mind that there are many of the folks we work with and live next to are going to hell if they do not accept Christ as their Saviour. I can't speak for the rest of you, but many times I have to say woe is me.

We hold a fall revival every year. We don't invite a preacher who'll come and beat us up, but who'll come and encourage the church. Every now and then, it helps if someone other than me encourages our church to either become or remain faithful to God and His Word. We don't see the multitudes saved, but we do see many members become more dedicated to God and His church.

We hold one or two revivals a year and it is mainly for the church people.

Lord send a revival and let it begin in ME...

We hold annual meetings, but not revivals. There is one ging on this weekend down her at one of our sister churches. It started this eveing and will conclde on Sunday. Ours will begin on the Friday night before the 5th Sunday in September this year. It will encompass the entire weekend. It's a time of great fellowship and love and a time to hear ministers preach who we don't get to hear on a regular basis.

we don't have revivals....but we have missions conferences, which surely
are like a revival (I grew up in a church that had revivals 2 times a year) - and seem to pump up the members.
