On what grounds do you make that rather breathtaking assertion? I comment on what I observe; you don't need to be within the jurisdiction of the USA to be able to do that.

 

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt since the alternative is selective observation. All kinds of people say stupid things on both sides of the isle. In fact Vice President Joe Biden says dumb things every single week. Obama himself has been caught with dumb statements.

But I suppose you could be another crabby. Liberals will be liberals.

Nope, just ensuring that people here get to see both sides; we read an awful lot - rightly in most cases - on this board about the stupidities and in some case lies put about by Obama and other Democrats, and it's important to realise that neither party is exempt from half-wittedness and crass, offensive comments.

There is no way to say something like this, and be sure the libbies won't lie about it, twist it, and edit it to show that people who believe life begins at conception are intolerant.

I agree with his statement.

 

The problem is not what he said. The problem is what everyone is telling us he meant. If we are only to say things that nobody can lie about, twist, or take out of context, then people are going to be mighty quiet.

From the reactions on this thread, I see "the conservatives" are still going to be more concerned about what people might say about them, than doing the work America needs them to do.

Yes, but as a lawyer I am well aware that I am in a walk of life where I have to be very careful with my words. Politics is another such walk of life.

I think that the conservatives ought to be concerned about whether people are going to vote for them so they can do the necessary work in the first place.

 

Evil people will always twist your words. Satan tries to twist God's words. Take them out of context. Lie about what he meant. Should God have been more careful when he spoke ?

I think Mourdock's being taken out of context here, but at the same time it does illustrate the need for thinking before speaking. It isn't good for the Republican Party to be associated with "legitimate rape" and "God-intended rape".

 

Precisely; in addition, there's much with which you can get away when you're not just up for election that you can't when you are.
