How sad. I've heard vaguely of the Jesus Seminar. I did not know that it (and he) rejected Jesus as Messiah.

This is sad. Funk was a great scholar of the Greek language, arguably one of the best of his generation. I recall that he was universalist in his outlook, denying the divinity of Christ or His resurrection.

    Yes this is sad.

The Jesus Seminar would take votes on what Jesus had really said in the Gospels.

The Jesus seminar has done an incredible amount of harm and has helped promote the infamous Gospel of Thomas.
This is an article about the Jesus Seminar book, The Five Gospels: What Did Jesus Really Say?
    http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-t017.html

The 5th gospel is, of course, the Gospel of Thomas.
