And we've come to expect twisted scripture, emotionalism and judgementalism from you.

is there any reason to use "allegedly" about what i say happens in my own mind/body? are my own statements about what happens in my own mind/body not enough proof for you? but perhaps i'm misunderstanding things or being too sensitive.

Gyrating? To move in a circular or spiral path; to whirl. I have heard on more than one occasion, "All those young people out there gyrating their bodies around". what a joke. Anyone gyrating to music would look like the village idiot; whirling around in a circular path.

We better call Walmart & ToysrUs and have them remove all the hula hoops. Those circular rings will cause our children to prematurely gyrate. Oh the sin and lust that must goes on at our schools playgrounds and city parks.

I do agree that some people do dance in a questionable manner, but you cannot tie it to just any form of music.

My highschool band director loved orchestral music. He loved to play it over the sound system in the bandroom, really loud. He would close his eyes and begin to move his arms, hands, legs, feet, body, and head as if he were leading a live orchestra. His movements were'nt that far off from what I saw at the school dances. He was "Feeling the Music".

Listen to Beethoven's "Chorale Fantasy". That is as powerful, loud, agressive, and emotional as any rock song I have ever heard. And I've heard a lot.

i have not yet enjoyed that piece, but i see what you are saying. the last movement of his 9th symphony is powerful and agressive. it is similar. but with some of the rock music i used to listen to (led zeppelin, mostly) this feeling is more distilled, pure, and nearly continual.

Allow me to repeat TravelSong's question, exactly how many rock concerts have you ever been to? You seem to think you have more experience then anyone else here.

 I don't see people "gyrating" at rock concerts either, and I have been to dozens.

Anyway, I think that the physical reaction to music is almost totally dependent on how people are. I have friends who do "superman" impersonations (Back straight, still as a statue, arms crossed over the chest) rock concerts of any style and volume. I can't do that, I have to move to certain music. Ska I have to skank dance(Supertones coming to the Electric Factory March 25th, whoohoo!!). Some styles I prefer to mosh. Some styles I just jump straight up and down. Some I do my own superman impersonation. However, none of what I do could be considered "sexual" any more then people can look at the waltz as sexual. I also wouldn't consider it wrong, despite what some people seem to think, dancing IS NOT wrong!! I also don't think that God looks down going "Behold, my people are having fun!! No!!" (Sorry, you'd have to have seen Ken Davis to get that)

Lastly, can you get a "high" from rock music? IMO, yes, it is a kind of "high." But I think that you can get "high" from classical music, jazz, folk, any music that "moves" you. Once again it depends on individuals, and though some might not like it, just because they react or don't react to music in a certain way doesn't mean everyone does. One of the (many) huge mistakes of the legalists is to assume that their experiences are universal.

i've decided that i can't listen to such music in good conscience. i'm not saying anybody who does is evil or misguided, i just know i can't. i'm sitting here CRAVING it like some addict or sexed up teenager, and i'm sick of it. please keep me in your prayers.

Me, neither. We saw the Allman Brothers a couple of weeks ago and then saw Elvis Costello. No gyrating at either one.

Have you been to the Electric Factory before? We saw Jethro Tull and the Saw Doctors there (not on the same bill) and the show was great but it was way too packed. Have a good time and let me know what happens.

I saw Moby there 3 years ago. Moby was terrible (I don't care much for him anyway), the acoustics were terrible, the place was a sweatbox, and the surrounding area is filled with crack heads who aggressively approach you for money. When we arrived, and were looking for parking, a group of thugs threw rocks at our car taunting us to get out. When we left there were two other people in the same lot our car was parked who had their cars stolen. That was one of the most unenjoyable experiences of my life.

I'm going down again on the 22nd to see Sigur Ros though. [IMG]

    Really?

The neighborhood is in the middle of Northern Liberties, which isn't a bad place and Brewerytown, which isn't supposed to be a bad place.

We go to Finnegan's Wake right around the corner from the Electric Factory all the time.

We used to go to Ortliebs, Poor Richard's and different place in Northern Liberties. None of those are in bad areas.

I wouldn't have expected you to have trouble there.

ha'aretz, this is going to be the fight of your life because music has such a grip on us. And, trust me, the Devil would have you to give up fighting the moment you step into the mall or fast food restaurant and you hear the music you so crave. I still go through this but the love of Jesus compels me to keep my heart faithful to Him.

But worse are the Christians around you who will tell you that it's okay. Soon your conscience will no longer speak to you. [IMG] Find a church that will help you in this fight if the one you're at doesn't!

    In my prayers. [IMG]

None of this is real. I don't believe any of it. I think someone is up to a little trickery.

JDT, I have not made any statements that are untrue. On the other hand, i've been over-stated and misquoted.

I did not say EVERYBODY *will* gyrate at rock concerts.

I did say that NOBODY behaves that way in a classical concert.

Do i have to physically attend a rock concert to watch how people behave? No! Why do you insist that one has to be there in order to observe this phenonmena that people (generally speaking) behave the same way at rock concerts no matter what their cultural background???

[IMG] Gotta disagree, you've made inaccurate statements, mostly from bad doctrine.

You evaded my question. To answer yours, YES. You made a blanket claim, now I have asked for your qualifications to make that claim, you have yet to give it. So please, humour me, how many rock concerts have you been to?

I've been to the Electric Factory 3 times that I can think of righ now. I saw Audio Adrenaline and Fono, POD and Blindside, and Supertones and someone else who was touring with them at the time. Should be great, Supertones put on an excellent concert.

Travelsong, that's insane. I've never had any problems, well except with the sweatbox and the bad accoustics. I loved it anyway, I go to maybe 4-5 concerts a year outside of Creation, so as long as the music is good I have a blast.
And I think you might be right, this isn't real. I'm reading all of these posts, and wondering do people really think like this, or is it just an act??
