I don't recall any tax credits that I have taken on my returns just off hand.

There have been itemized deductions that I could have taken but did not - contribution of items to Purple Heart for instance.

I don't agree with taking a deduction for donating something to a charity that I would otherwise just throw away.

Do you recall when the Clintons took a two dollar deduction for every pair of used underwear that Bill gave to Goodwill?

I also have never taken a deduction for an in home office even though I was allowed to under IRS rules. I don't agree with it on principle - so I don't take it.

I take every deduction possible... But I find it hard to believe you do not take the standard deduction, that seems pretty obvious.

BTW, I agree with not taking an in home office deduction, it is tricky and very subjective... something that can easily get you in trouble with the IRS. However, I would rather you have the money in your pocket than Congress in theirs.

So you take the standard deduction as well as deductions for mortgage interest, charitable deductions, real estate tax deductions, medical and dental deductions?
