OK, lets talk money. Afterall, Jesus spoke of $$$ more than prayer, right? He said, Where your treasure is, there your heart is also."

What is a fair salary package for Sr. Pastors today? Waht are you guys getting paid?

    Here is mine:

Church Size: Worship Aveg Att = 475

    ~Salary, Hosuing, Car Allowance = $72,000
    ~S.S. Supplement = $5,000
    ~Plus help with insurance
    ~Plus only 3% for retirement
~Plus expenses for conventions, books, etc.

Waht about the rest of you?

It will be interesting to see?!?

    I get minimum wage.
Overhere, asking somebody about his salary without a very good reason is simply not done, so I can't ask what our headpastor takes home every month.

The total package offered to the pastor comes to a little over 75K, which includes health insurance, education, auto/gas, minimal retirement benefits and business allowance.

The deacons have been working on raising the salaries for the past 4 years but both pastors asked to forgo their increases so we could hire another pastor.
    That WILL happen in December!

Our pastor gets in the neighborhood of $40k + health and some expenses for education/conferences. He is purchasing his own home.

This would be in the same financial range as a teacher with an MA and 10 years in the school district.

I make from $5k to $15k a year total from mission support, conferences, teaching, new church plant, weddings, funerals et al. Much of that is eaten up in travel costs and I seldom have any $$ to declare on tax day! Thank God my wife works!

But as I am not physically able to teach college/pastor a large church, it is a blessing to still be serving God!

total of the package is around 37k.

Housing paid except phone and cable.

    Insurance around 8k per year.

Milage is separate so I don't have it set.

2k per year for edu. expenses.

It's a blessing for an average weekly attendance of 85- 90 people. God has been growing the church from the inside out though and those numbers are looking better every week. Just hope I don't get caught up in the numbers game.

Our Senior Pastor's base salary is about $75K, plus benefits (insurances, etc.). I don't believe he gets either a car or housing benefit in addition to his salary. For the size of our church (attendance on 11/07 was 2,174) and for the hours he puts in, I don't believe he's overpaid by any means.

The pastor of my former church has a package of $60-65K. That includes his salary, insurance (he is retired, and the church pays his premium to keep the insurance he had when he was employed), travel reimbursment. He has $15K declared as housing allowance to help with taxes.

The problem with that? The church runs 120 on a really good Sunday, about 100 normally.

    In Christ,
    Trotter

right before I left for seminary we got a new pastor, and for a church in our state (IL) and for oen of our size (~185 on Sunday Morning) and for one his age (~50) all the numbers pointed to an average of about $42,000 or so (but I htink that was without insurance etc).

If I'm not mistaken, even if it isn't specifically called out as "Housing Allowance" a pastor is allowed to designate part of his salary as housing allowance...

Easy question for me. I pastor a very small church 20 members, average attendance of about 50, and get exactly zero dollars, and am glad to do it.

I don't know. Diane, how large a church does your pastor lead? Our church is around 2,000 on Sunday morning. Plus, living in Colorado Springs and one can't get a home for under 200,000, I would assume $92,000 would be about right. However, there are 7 other full-time pastors on staff.

A housing allowance must be declared in the church budget at the beginning of the year. Otherwise it cannot be declared on the Pastor's tax return. We have our annual budget meeting at the end of January, but we have a quick meeting to establish the housing allowance on the 1st Sunday, otherwise it cannot be declared at the end of the year. I am sure that many do it anyway, but that is what the IRS requires.

I am full-time in a church that now averages about 50-55 in SS.

28,000/yr plus 3060 placed in annuity board retirement. A parsonage is provided along with water and DSL line! But that's it.

Low, but God is using it totally to provide for my family of 6.
