From the tenor of this thread, my surmise is I will never see any of you at HSBC. Y'all are too afraid of the cooties. Too bad. Serving God here in Corinth-by-the-Bay gives real meaning to being a Gospel Lighthouse.

I'd think have the event in SanFancisco because thats where a lot of people live, where there are facilities .. Same reasons as holding that kind of event in any major population center.

And don't any of the major Baptist Associations (SBC or other) hold their conventions in SF?

    Regards
    Bob

San Francisco will be seeing a good number of us folks in June. The difference will be the FBFI knows it's not coming for a day at the ball park.

Wrong. I use the word when it describes an atitude being shown in a conversation.

I understand that homosexualiy is sinful. I also understand that hatred, bigotry, unforgiveness, and being stiffnecked is a sin.

It is, however, homophobia to call people "queer," to refuse to acknowledge their ability to find salvation in Christ (and refusing to go where they are is, in effect, refusing to acknowledge their ability to find salvation in Christ), and treating their sin as worse than the others Paul lists along with homosexuality in the first chapter of Romans.

You jump to conclusions from ignorance. This is, I suppose, understandable.

    Tragic, how tragic...

My point is that when someone charges Christians as homophobes it is because they have chosen to remain in that lifestyle and are using the charge to fight off any oppurtunity to love them into the kingdom.

When a Christian levels the charge of homophobe at another believer it tells me that there is a high probability of compromise with the homosexual agenda involved...

And, if I am jumping to conclusions...

    What are you jumping to?

How we view and protect our view of "Family" is important to our ability to speak the Gospel Plainly because *if* the homosexual activist get their way it will be illegal, ie., a hate crime, to call practicing homosexuality a sin and an abomination before Almighty God...

That there are some called to minister to the homosexual community is great... But, I do not believe a true minister of God will call other believer who are outspoken about homosexuality being sin, a homophobe...

And, BTW, to be a Phobe you have to be Phobic, Ie., have an irrational fear of something...

Needles are something I admit to being phobic to...

    Homosexuals do not scare me...

Others would call me as one being obedient:

Jud 1:23 snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear--hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

Making fun of a screen name is not cute; rather it is childish, and counterproductive, and does not serve to convince me that anything you have to say is of value. Kindly refrain if you expect me to treat you with the respect you are due.

OR a Christian finds derogatory terminology as counterproductive to the very real and Biblical task of evangelizing homosexuals.

    Pick one.

Obviously I am opposed to making said speech a "hate crime;" it is my continuing position that no speech constitutes a hate crime, so I see no incinsistency in this view.

I am advocating, rather, a Christian policy of self-policing, where we can acknowledge the sinful nature of certain practices while remembering that all sin separates us from God. I have yet to see a church picketing a supermarket rag because it promulgates a lifestyle of gossip. I see few Evangelicals speaking out against injustices across the planet, even though injustice is at least as repugnant to God as idolatry.

    "Some" are called?

Where in Scripture does it say that only some of us are to share the Gospel?

Again, and emphatically, it is not the content of the message which I take issue with; rather the choice of words used to describe a homosexual. Calling someone a "queer" dehumanizes them, making them a thing[/i which I do not have to bother sharing the Gospel with. This is clearly counterBiblical, and prevalent in chuches across the country.

You forgot the part about being merciful. I wonder if this is purposeful or an honest omission?

Your quote "It is, however, homophobia to call people "queer," to refuse to acknowledge their ability to find salvation in Christ (and refusing to go where they are is, in effect, refusing to acknowledge their ability to find salvation in Christ),
    ------------------------------------------------------

    Bible verses please?

Is the word queer in the bible? I can't find it
I can't find any bible verses that say by not going where "they" are, we are refusing to acknowledge their ability to find salvation in Christ

John 8: 11 "Go and sin no more"
These are the words of Jesus to the woman to committed the sexual sin of adultery. He did not condemn her, yet commanded her to refrain from future relations. This is not the exact same sexual sin as homosexuality but it is important to note that I it is a somehwat similar sin. I have no reason to believe Jesus wouldn't do the same for the practicing homosexual.

I will not desensitize my own teenager by taking him to S.F.
I have provided scripture for this. I do drive through S.F by necessity at times. I live only an hour or so away.
Please do not discount so easily Mike Sr.'s wise cousel. He has provided scripture as his basis. His opening introduction appears an opinion of the situation, not a personal attack such as calling someone homophobic.

I sense this could be a personal struggle for you. I could be wrong. Feel free to pm me if you want.

Personally, when I tried this sin, I had a great time :D
Desensitizing played a part so I want to make sure I make the right decisions as a parent.

Adults should be fine to visit S.F. for the conference Rob't posted. It looks like a fabulous event

Jesus went to Samaria, did He not? Paul went to Corinth, Rome, and other seats of pagan worship, did he not?

Never once did they compromise their pronounciations against sin...

Never once did they ever mince their words of calling sin, sin...

Sometimes Confrontational Intervention is the only way to prove ones love for another...

It's the same Confrontational Intervention used with drunks, druggies or cult members...

I am more than willing to share Jesus with the casual homosexual...

But, the radical in yer face form of homosexual activists needs Confrontational Intervention as *nothing* else will get their attention...

We both jump to conclusions because we see the same problem through a different set of eyes and differing view points...

I have other evangelism priorities than to go 'looking' for a homosexual to preach to...

So, I am not "Called" specifically to minister to that particular group...

Others are specifically gifted and called by God to do so...

However, not being "Called" does not mean that I am free to ignore someone who comes my way seeking the Knowledge of God...

And, it is "Tragic" that you assumed things about me that are simply not true...

And, it is also "Tragic" that I reciprocated in kind...

To resolve this may require more patience than either of us has. [IMG]

But, I am willing to try...

No one, least of all I, is calling for compromising the message. Confrontation is fine, yes, but only within the parameters of speaking the truth in ove.

Still making fun of my screen name, though.

By the way, I'm not neccesarily in favor of the average Christian looking for any one group to evangelize. Rather, part of being prepared to share the Good News is not blocking the message by offending out-of-hand.

I am a native San Franciscan. There aren't many of us around these days. We've been swamped by folks from other places. Most of the problems in this thread were caused by folks who moved here from your hometowns.

Regretfully, the attendees of the Battle Cry concert came to the City with rose colored glasses and blinders. That's the bad news.

The good news is San Francisco is not forty-nine square miles of a 24/7 Folsom Street Fair\Gay Pride Day Parade. So, come to the City and spend your money. Tourism has been our bread and butter since 1849. Mind you there, isn't all that much for a Christian to see in the Castro District. But, the Palace of the Legion of Honor is nice and so is the new De Young Museum.

Jannee: What are you proposing? Should Hamilton Square and the other Gospel preaching churches shut our doors and our people move to where it is "safe" to raise our children?

As to homophobia: I view -phobia as meaning an unfounded fear. Many Christians have just that when it comes to homosexuality. Yes, it is a death-style. Yes, Romans chapter one clearly states God's view of homosexuality and those heterosexuals who facilitate it. He abhors it and them.

As this thread is scheduled to close at 4am EDT, I request the Moderators exercise some grace and allow it to remain open until tomorrow afternoon. I will be unable to respond to any comments made to this post until after 10am EDT.

I don't know about the other moderators, but I think the page limit should be kept. Personally, I would suggest you respond in another thread to any subsequent posts.

I say this because if the page limit is stretched in one case it will find reason to be stretched in all others and soon would be difficult to follow that guideline for this forum.

Now, having said these things I don't know how such requests have been dealt with in the past, so if the other mods. agree to the request, I have no problem with it. But I don't think it is practical in light of the 3 page limit guideline.
