I'm just wondering what ya'll think of having church services (FULL Church services) on Saturday night...not INSTEAD, in addition to Sunday...well, it will be INSTEAD for me, not the church, is actually what I mean. The church I attend has had and extensive amount of growth in a very short period of time...all three Sunday services are standing room only...they have an overflow area in their gym but for me, its just not the same...Sundays are CRAZY at the church and I'm glad they've decided to start Saturday services - Sunday School will follow the 5:00 service so I expect to be at church from 4:45 - 7:30ish

Anyway, I'm being very long-winded...thanks for your opinions...

Shouldn't be a problem. Biblically, a new day begins at sunset. Saturday at sunset would be the first day of the week until Sunday at sunset. The Bible tells of the early church assembling on the first day of the week, which would have been between these times.

And, if you remember, Paul preached at one of those meetings until midnight when that fella went to sleep and fell out of the window. So, as you can see, there is the example of the church meeting Saturday evening (for surely Paul didn't preach from 11:00am until past midnight, so I am sure they met shortly after sunset Saturday night).

I don't see any Biblical reason not to. Doesn't matter to me. Have it every day of the week if you like.

    Kathy,
the bible only tells us to not forsake the assembling together of ourselves, not what day to come together. As long as everyone gets the same sound doctrine there is no problem. [IMG]

Sounds fine to me as long as people don't start using the Saturday service as an excuse to go fishing on Sunday...

Sounds fine to me Kathy. I have, though, heard of some churches that have shortened services on Saturday with no S/S type classes offered. If the intent is to give God 30 mins. .... so Sunday's can be spent golfing, sleeping in, etc. then I'd have a problem with it.

As a matter of fact, if the Church met everyday, it might look a bit more like the early Church (Acts 2:46).

I think the idea of a variety of service times (Friday, Saturday, Sunday et al) will be the wave of the future.

I must say tho, the atmosphere was different...mostly everyone was dressed very casually...I know you see a mixture of dressed up and casual on Sundays, but the norm last night was casual. I wonder if other churchs that have Saturday night services are the same...

Kathy, LLH, one of our members, goes on Saturday night to her church in California. The church had outgrown it's facilities and her husband volunteered to do his assigned duties at the Sat. night service. Lynne mentioned to me that Saturday night tended to be VERY casual Saturday type clothes.

We're very casual on Wednesday nights. Sunday nights is mixed. Some stay in their Sunday morning attire and others come in blue jeans. Tonights a musical so it'll be mostly younger people.

I honestly think that more casual and contemporary services will be the way it is in the future cuz the trend is leaning that way...

I really liked the Saturday night service mostly because I cannot stand huge crowds and standing room only worship times (its great for the church tho! Growth!)...but like you described Diane, the church has outgrown it's facility. They are working towards rectifying that, but the relief was needed now...but it's much to my benefit! [IMG] )

Saturday evening service is not an option at my church because we're not big enough to offer it. We've actually had people decide not to join our church because we did not have a Saturday evening service. These excuses are unusual, but it does indicate a growing trend.

The previous church I attended did Sat evening instead of Sunday evening. No Sunday School... Gospel music guest every Sat. night.. Evangelistic program for the most part. It was mostly casual... Now they are doing discipleship classes on Sunday evening... Do what the Lord leads to get His people assembled together. Adjust the methods, never compromise the Message.

Multiple services is not always about size. It can be simply about more opportunities.
