What I would like to know is how many Christians are aware that alot of the meat on there plates has come from animals that were mistreated prior to it being slaughtered. In that situation I would say no way, buy from another supplier.

I would point out that I also eat meat, and it is not eating meat that is up for discussion, rather the way the animals are treated in the slaughter yard prior to being slaughtered. Christians should speak up and do something about companies like these that abuse animals in order to maximise there profits.

I understand your thoughts Ben, but the question should be "How many Christians are willing to pay an extra dollar a pound for humanely treated animal meat?

Good point C4K, the question is, does God care about people mistreating animals for profit also?

Yes, we should. Being responsible for the care of our world includes animals, and is a command in the Bible.
One doesn't have to become a vegetarian, but a person should seriously take the time to consider where their food is coming from and do their best to be sure that it is from a decent source. A solution to paying higher prices on quality products is to include more veggies and grains in your diet. Even that is worth a look into though. Rotating crops and giving the earth a break instead of loading up on chemicals and such to boost production...
SEE WHAT YOU GOT ME STARTED ON?!
Forget it. Those who take the Bible's command seriously to take care of our earth and to treat our animals right are already taking the time and effort to be careful, those who don't aren't. It angers me when people outright refuse to pay attention to those parts of the Bible though.

Sometimes it does come down to pure economics. A family on a limited budget often can afford nothing better that the very cheapest mince (hamburger meat) and pre-packed "fowl farm" chicken.

What is best, and even right, is not always feasible.

These animals are often not even animals in the tradtional sense of the word. Food chickens are bred to grow from hatch to home dinner in just 60 days.

It is great, right, and proper to say don't buy cheap meat - but is it enough of a principle for a family living on a tight income to make an issue of.

That's true in a way C4K, but I'm thinking that the average person reading online isn't so poor they cannot either reduce the quantity of meats and replace them with veggies and grains or pay the extra few cents to buy from a local farm that is trustworthy.
Admittedly, that isn't available in all areas, or a good option for those who can't afford to. But look back over the posts and see the mockery in them concerning this being a valid issue. It IS a valid issue, and shouldn't be made fun of and ignored by people.

Good point and I can see that would be a difficult descion. I would suggest they pray about it and see what the Holy Spirit says to do.

I love that old hymn "What a friend we have in Jesus". How often do we forget that God cares about absolutley everything that happens to us and we should pray about all manner of things, not just the stuff that we consider is to big for us.

I apologise if I was taken that way. However Gina our own family is in a situation at the moment where we have to watch every penny because of the weak dollar. We can buy pre-packed "fowl farm" chicken breast fillets and season them for €2.99 for 500g, or we can buy fresh chicken breast fillets from a reputable farm in Ireland for about €6.99 for 500g. What do you think the average person on a limited income is going to do? IF I were to buy only "kind to animal" farm meats my groceries would go up by at least 50%. I am careful about beef, but only because of the danger of the spread of mad cow disease.

Give up my internet access because of the way food chickens are bred? It is just not that much of a priroty to me.

Then in dollars it is $4.00 for 500g as opposed to $9.38 500g in these weak dollar days.

Right or worng it really comes done to economics. Kind of like, "Am I going to support the local shop owner or am I going to shop at Wal-Mart?"

    HSUS

Because of the efforts of the Humane Society, buying these products has been outlawed in America.

What kind of person would wear a dog fur coat? That is horrorable, and useless, at least killing cows, pigs and chcikens is for human comsumption.

Which leads to an interesting question. The issue of mistreatment notwithstanding, why is the killing of dogs and cats for fur and meat inhumaine, but the killing of cows for leather and meat not inhumaine? It's certainly not a moral issue.

What a waste of taste buds---if I'm gonna chow down---make it Angus!!!

Dogs and things you can do with them:

Border Collie--good for herdin' Sheep and those momma Holstein's(especially when its too cold & wet for a human species to be out in it---you just whistle the dog---point toward the pasture in question and "B-I-N-G-O!!" All the dairyman has to do is attach the milkers!! Easier than it looks!!

Setters and Pointers---good for Quail huntin'

Labs---good for Geese and Duck huntin'---can swim like a fish!!

German Shepherds, Rotweiler's, and Doberman's---good for protecting you and your valuables!!

Beagles---good for the Cotton Tail and Swamp rabbit!

Walker Hound---good for White Tail deer!

Bloodhound---good for roundin' up escaped felons!

    Chew-wah-wah's---good for nothin'!!!

Folks who eat dogs and cats 1)don't have nothin' to think with---or 2) are sittin' on their thinkers!!!
