Askjo chides us lest we acclaim one who values intellect over faith. Very good warning.

But it seems to me that the judging of "scholarship" is a little arbitrary. If the "scholarship" backs up the traditional LITERAL interpretation then it's good. If "scholarship" suggests something other than this then it is branded "liberal" or something of the like.

I still maintain that God gave us brains to use. If science, language, logic, or archeology suggests something different than our traditional interpretation - perhaps we can learn from that.

EXAMPLE:
We have traditionally held that the creation story is to be taken literally with a 6 day creation and a young earth - although most science suggests this is not the case. Perhaps we can use this information to help best interpret God's word.

A common mistake made by both scientists & theologians is to say scripture and science are in opposition, when a closer look at both reveals just the OPPOSITE. Your example of young earth\old earth is typical. The young-earther says, "Looky here-The Bible says SIX DAYS! Matter Closed!" while the old-earther says, Looky here-the farthest thing we can see w/the unaided eye is the Andromeda galaxy, which is so far away that its light takes over a MILLION YEARS to reach us! Yes, the matter IS closed-but not in YOUR favor!"

A closer look at Scripture shows God's Spirit was moving over THE FACE OF THE WATERS. Now, were these waters just one big globule, or were they upon the surface of this planet? Science reveals evidence for several worldwide catastrophes which flooded the entire earth. Could not Scripture have been referring to the present arrangement of the earth, seas, & cosmos?

Another example is found when discussing the most common, pervasive physical force we know of-GRAVITY. Every physical object has gravity. If there were only two atoms in the entire universe, placed as far apart as possible, they'd still attract each other, and eventually would become in as close proximity as possible. There's a "law" which says a body having X mass exerts Y amount of gravity at Z distance from the body's center. This law is universal, regardless of whether the body is a neutron star or a cloud of gas.

The law of gravity is GOD'S law. We cannot alter it in any way. We can apply enough force to a given object such as a rocket to overpower earth's gravity, but we cannot NULLIFY that gravity one peep! Science is really the discovery of GOD'S PHYSICAL LAWS. Many a scientist is afraid to face that truth, but when asked to explain what FUELS gravity, or what gravity is MADE OF, they act like a KJVO whose argument was just shot down. Likewise, many a "theologian" is at a loss to explain why the light from distant deep-space objects is so old, or to present a rational explanation for the jillions of fossils of extinct life found all over the earth.

I believe science & worship go hand-in-hand, and I don't believe anyone can prove me wrong in this.I believe God has left enough clues such as those mentioned above for us to use the brains He gave us to see these things.

We must never forget-IF GOD HAD WANTED ROBOTS, HE WOULD'VE MADE ROBOTS, incapable of the slightest sin, disobedience, or rebellion. With God, all things are possible, and He gave us the ability to think for ourselves. He gave us His written word, and the ability to closely observe our surroundings, and we should put 2-n-2 together.

1 Kings 19:13-18 (nKJV):

13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his
face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance
of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said,
"What are you doing here, Elijah?"
14 And he said, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts;
because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant,
torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword.
I alone am left; and they seek to take my life."
15 Then the Lord said to him: "Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria.
16 Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel.
And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint
as prophet in your place.
17 It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael,
Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu,
Elisha will kill.
18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel,
all whose knees have not bowed to Baal,
and every mouth that has not kissed him."

Summary:
God: What are you doing there Elijah?
Elijah: I'm having a pity party.
God: Get back to work

GB93433:Are you suggesting that you stay ignorant? Scholarship would say that Solomon did not wisely use what God gave and disobeyed what he derived from his scholarship.

I believe you're asking this of Paidagogos, but just in case you're also asking me, I'll put in my $0.02 worth:

Actually, I'm suggesting just the opposite. Some Scripture I forgot to post as proof God wants us to study His word is Isaiah 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

God doesn't expect anyone to learn all the Scriptures overnight, nor learn all their meanings & precepts equally fast. But he DOES want us to keep studying & learning from His word according to our individual abilities He's given each of us.And one of the ways I've increased my small knowledge of the Scriptures is by studying science, archaeology, & history. I fully believe that Scripture & these "ologies" listed above are NOT at odds with each other!

Without scholarship, we would have no English translations of the Bible. </font>
The scholarship where modern versions are based is the big problem: the unbelief . </font>
The only translation committee that ever signed a statement of faith affirming salvation by grace through faith was the NASB committee. They give the clearest testimony of salvation. The KJV translators ALL affirmed the 39 Articles of Religion which taught a form of baptismal regeneration.

Perhaps you weren't referring to salvation though. Maybe the "unbelief" you are citing is their unbelief in the false doctrine of KJVOnlyism.

So what? Who buries us has nothing to do with whether we saved or not.

Erasmus was an outcast from the RCC because he exposed clergy abuses. He was appreciated by protestants for his scholarship.

I would certainly hope that if a Catholic in your area died with no one to care for his body, your church would help bury it.
</font>
Their testimony is very obvious to be understood. "So what?" is how you do not care about their testimony.
</font>
You didn't quote a testimony. You said the "reformation" (I guess you are talking about the protestants) took care of his body.

You completely evaded my response. It doesn't matter who buries us. The Bible says to "confess" with the mouth. As far as we know, Erasmus never did this.

The post has been there for 4 days and you have not responded. If you are not running away, why have you not responded?

Ben Asher and BHK/37 are the same.

Ben Chayyim and BHK/06/12 are the same.

I didn't list "Q." "Q" is a Greek manuscript of the New Testament. I listed the Hebrew manuscripts containing Genesis 2:18 found in Qumran and commonly called the Dead Sea Scrolls.

And I listed them because they all read exactly the same in Genesis 2:18. There is no textual variant in Genesis 2:18. I posted the proof that the NKJV reading is correct and means the same thing as the KJV reading.

Why not go over to that thread, read what I posted, and comment in that thread?

Why do you continue to run away from the issue? My post clearly shows that your old Strong's is WRONG regarding the Hebrew of Genesis 2:18. I have shown you over and over again that the reading of the KJV and the NKJV agree.

Why are you so afraid of the issue? If you admit you are wrong, and that your old Strong's is not a sufficient resource to use in the study of the scriptures, will that make you life unbearable?

Why do you continue to run away from the issue? Why do you continue to refuse to address the real points being made? Is it because you can't? Is it because you know you are WRONG and lack the Christian character to admit it?

Why do you keep running away?
